Whisperfish - The unofficial SailfishOS Signal client

Awesome, thanks for the pointer! :folded_hands:

Strange, but my Whisperfish doesn’t connect again. In the morning, after I updated it to beta.41, at first it didn’t connect but after restart (or some similar tricks) it worked for a day. And now, after updating Sailfish to 5.1.0.11, Whisperfish stays disconnected again. (Phone is Xperia 10 II, if that’s relevant.)

Edit: Well, now, after I chose to quit Whisperfish from the settings, it connects immediately.

Does this mean I should be able to find it in Storeman (0.6.0-beta.41)? I only see 40.
Or does this mean that I could download it from github?

EDIT: Never mind, I have 0.6.0-beta.41 installed.

I got confused by the changelog (Ƅnderungsprotokoll), which only shows changes up to 0.6.0-beta.40

I had the same issue but with the latest Whisperfish update, all fine again even in SFOS 5.1.0.11. Thanks a lot for the Whisperfish update!

The beta.41 version should be in Storeman.

Since the latest update, all my contact names have disappeared, both if i switch to prefer contact names or not, without it only shows number, if i check device contact names, it just says (no name)

i had same bug, but time or something else fixed it for now

Did a good ol system restart and now some of them came back, strange…

Never mind, it crashed, and when I restarted all the names disappeared again

Is logging as the primary device not working?

Is this problem only with notifications or also in the main UI?

Both, notification and UI. Workaround for me: Link the contact from the adress book and it will show the name in the UI.

The notifications are still without the names…

The automatic matching only works if the Signal contact shares their phone number with you; that is no longer a default-on option. Manually linking works around that.

Worth noting that Whisperfish then knows the device side contact ID, Whisperfish doesn’t modify the device contacts in any way.

Also worth noting; there were significant changes (mostly refactoring) regarding profile fetching so there may be some issues regarding that. Please report bugs to GitLab if you find into issues.

I had this for some weeks already. Today I changed all my contacts phone numbers from 06… to the international format +316… and the names returned one by one after that.
However, the Conversations list may show a name, but the app’s cover may not for the same person… It is kind of weird.

I have all my contacts manually linked and in the main GUI, they show correctly. But the notifications show either their ā€œNicknameā€ or their phone number or their UUID (or I thank that’s what that is).

After updating to v0.6.0-beta.41 some days ago, I also experienced the issue where almost no names were displayed for my Whisperfish chats/contacts - neither in the app itself nor in the notification area. There were only very few chats/contacts where the name was displayed as usual. I couldn’t figure out a pattern.
But I just noticed that now all the names are showing up again (except for one). And this happened without me installing a new version of Whisperfish. I have no explanation for this kind of self repair, but nevertheless I wanted to share this pleasant surprise here. Maybe time really does heal all wounds

I have a new phone Community Port (Motorola G7 Power). Cannot use as secondary device. Connection failed. Is that a known issue?

Even my other phones do not connect (xperia 10iii, xperia xz2)

Yes, linking/registration is still broken as seen here

Yes, as desribed in the changelog and here in forum, registration is broken at the moment, wait for a release which will fix that

Sorry double post

The holiday season is coming, and I think it’s important to have a gallery mode (to swipe through when receiving more than one photo) and the ability to send multiple photos at once. That’s one of the main reasons I still keep the Android app installed alongside Whisperfish.
