Hey, the topic here is Towards European open digital ecosystems(*). The debate over Jollas audience, daily drivers, apk format benefits etc are all worthwile, but can we have them in some other threads, please?

This just isn’t true, even approximately. There has been government institution FOSS Android apps at least since Covid. And I’m pretty sure many earlier apps are FOSS, too. And Android’s first release was 2008.
And if you move away from Android I know for a fact that much older examples exist.

Very interesting article on The Register, might be a golden opportunity for Jolla/SFOS to move to the mainstream and get serious loads of EU money.
This would open up currently unthinkable things, like actually challenging Android/iOS in the EU or getting SFOS-native apps for banking or whatever from EU companies and institutions.

Here are the feedback.
At the moment, 6 mentions of “Sailfish” and 42 metions of “Jolla” in a total of 250 feedback.

I will not discuss this stuff with you in a technical forum, but first off: You do not know who I voted for and this is an political opinion not meant to be discussed in the SFOS forum at all, and second: I wounder why you are blocked all the time. Can’t see even in a small way why you are, you seem like such a nice person.
Anyway, the train took off without the EU. Better focus on the next generation … but there is no money

I have heard from Brussels how the EU is going to be a leader in so many things … trains, space AI and now getting independent eco system for mobile phones
OMG … I can’t even believe this is the real world I am living in.
Look, I have used computer since 1985 … I have seen this and that. I have used Palm III then Palm V and then Nokia N9 to sync my contacts and calendar via bluetooth. This was the only reason I took Sailfish in 2015, and had to revive the buteo bluetooth, because the very intelligent people in Jolla dropped it, cause “everybody” is using something somewhere in the internet … but yeah, it was soppused to be secure.
So I have been through this for 10y and nothing improved dramatically. Sloppy changes, ugly devices … when something is fixed something else is broken … (my personal opinion) bad decisions in the leadrship … etc etc.
To put it short a big disappointment and all those slogans pushed from Brussels are laughable … May be Jolla made me resign.
Also I admire the cancel culture that developed in those past 10y especially in the liberal world.

Interesting… you think that because you got bitter, everybody else has to be bitter too. And because there was failure in the past it has to be going on forever. Where do you think we would be if that would be the attitude of everybody?
I do not say it will happen, but it is an opportunity I am willing to try out – if it won’t we at least tried and the good thing is: Nothing to loose here. If it doesn’t happen we are where you wanted us to start with and if it does work out, it might be great.
Do whatever you think you want to do, but I still do not see why I should be as bitter as you are – nothing to win in that.
Because we lost already and you will come to realize this in the coming years.
It is your choice to live your life as you wish. I am fed up with those lies upon lies upon lies. And why I am so bitter?! Because I grew up in eastern Europe hoping for something to change. Communism ended and we were lied and lied and lied … and now something worse than communism emerged.
And Jolla is lying too … For a short moment of time I was thinking I would order their phone (presales), but I have about 10 phones in the desk already and the best one is the N9 …
Same for cars, same of anything …
For example - all the idiots in the EU cry out loud for sustainability, preserving the planet etc. My remote broke after it fell down from the chair (children do play) … I opened it up and found out an electronic component - an oscillator is broken. I couldn’t find such electronic component in the whole EU. I found one on Aliexpres - actually 10pcs for 1€ and 1€ for shipment.
Same for the CD player of the daughter - a potentiometer - cost 0,20 - again on Aliexpres and 2€ shipment cost.
This whole system got broken in front of my eyes - this is why I am pissed. I hope things change, but I am afraid, it will take another 30y. Then it could be that there is a genuine EU ecosystem.

So you suggest we just sit down and stop breathing till we are dead? Really nice perspective and not at all interesting to me. If you want to be that kind of guy, your life, your missery – not mine.
And yes, I am aware, that life beats you down more and more… that is normal. But I think I have the right to try and go this route myself. And even if that would be true with the 30 years, etc. (I am pretty sure it is not wrong in some aspects even if we try hard… but again I do not aim for perfect tomorrow but a little better in a year. And maybe after that a little better again…) – if we do not start, it will never happen – not in 3 month and not in 300 years. Why not start now? If you are at the bottom as you seem to think, the only way is up.
From what I guess you were a little naive thinking you get 100% and later on you were let down because of that. Happens all the time, because people do not realise that other want different things too and you need to cope and compromise with that. I neighter am thinking “everything is going to be perfect” nor “everything is going to be bad and getting worse”. The simple truth is it is all grey. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose and most often you win or loose by 60%.
“Jolla is lying too” – this is again a very black / white thinking. They tried to acomplish something and didn’t fully succeed. That is not lying, it means reality stepped in and killed fantasy.
And I think, since you are here and taking your time to write all this, you still care somehow, otherwise why waste your time?

I do not suggest to sit down and stop breathing … you (EU) is already dead. Just let it sink in. It missed all the trains. I guess the root cause is falsely understood democracy, but we do not have to start this topic here and now. In fact my life is not a misery at all. I do not know how your life is. My life is full of joy. I thank God everyday for the sunlight, for the winter, for the summer, for the food, for my family and friends. I can not change the stupidity of the surrounding world.
BTW how many languages do you speak and how many books have you read? I mean real books - history Seneca, Aristoteles, maths, physics, chemistry, Petrarca, Dante, Goethe, Schiller, Shakespeare, Chehov, Dostoevsky?
I do not know you, so I can not judge, but I am looking at the younger and not so young people that are functionally analphabet. In US about 45%, in EU about 33% (especially West).
Well done - great future - no knowledge, no economy … just well done.
Life does not beat me down. I have taken care. I have house outside in the mountains, where is enough food and I have an apartment next to the capital. I do not pay rent. I have cars, savings, children. I have good health and happiness. What makes me sad is the desert the EU turned into in the past 25-40y.
I agree with you that a change needs time. This change must start bottom up - through enlightenment and if you start now it will take another 25y. This is why I mean you need to focus on the future and not trying to copy-paste something you already lost.
The bottom is not yet reached, but from what is going on geopolitically it is getting closer. I have a very big bag of popcorn.
“Jolla is lying too” is not a black/white thinking. It is a statement (may be subjective). And yes this statement is true. It might be because they were stupid, naive or whatever, but when you promise and you do not deliver, you are a liar.
In fact when you say “black/white thinking” means, you are not educated enough, to write or talk (at least with me). Remember - STATEMENT - it can have a true or false value - it is simple logic.
And yes I care, because I liked the MeeGo philosophy and it hurts to see it degrading.
