hm, good point.

I saw that a bluetooth mouse works without problems in this PostmarketOS

maybe only implementing scrolling like on the BB Passport?

I used BB Passport SE a lot and I love this.

BTW. bB did same failure, adding AAS to the own OS. For my opinion all apps need to be native!

TPM2 TOH - Integrate a physical Trusted Platform Module v2.0 into The Other Half

This TOH could be something similar to the LetsTrust TPM for embedded Linux on Raspberry Pi.

A TPM2 TOH could support the following use cases:

  • provide a platform to develop TPM2 solutions for SFOS
  • enhance user authentication with low entropy sources from PIN / fingerprint
  • bind encryption of system and user data to the TPM2 / RFC: Revision of /home encryption on SFOS
  • store and use your credentials and keys on the TPM
  • support secure boot
  • ..

For more information on TPM 2.0 Linux support see: https://tpm2-software.github.io/

Hi, what about hi perf audio with 3.5 mm jack, for instance with AKM’s AK4333 or AK4377 DAC/AMP ? but it needs PCM digital audio at few MHz addition to I2C (I don’t no if it exists and is OK with pogo pins) What do you think ?

True convergence. A TOH that let’s you dock your Jolla to a device similar to the Nexdock, but with your phone physically in the device. Maybe as the touchpad even?

The TOH itself is just a case with connectors, but the device it docks with lets the whole thing work as a laptop.

Making SailfishOS easily convergent, meaning it functions both as a mobile OS and as a desktop OS. And making the Jolla phone more than just another phone.

The first phone had NFC as well but i think it was missing an antenna so it only worked for TOH.
TOH killed NFC on that one and i hope that won’t be case this time.

TOH was not even mentioned when the J2 preorders started, so removing this promised capability now would be rather stupid.

When does the pre-order target of 10,000 units need to be met by?

Ok sry my bad, saw it to late. THX for the Information. In this case a 4K60fps and an OIS will not be possible. Thats sad but more important is to support the OS. So my order is done. Hopefully a second phone maybe in a few jears will get an up to date Videocapturing speed with optical stabilization.

If you purchased today/yesterday and now noticed the specifications really aren’t what you expected, you could try ask them to cancel/refund. I think it’s a better service for Jolla to only sell to people who will be happy about the product.

HMD (Human Made Devices), that acquired the rights to use the brand name “Nokia“ for a while for their phones, did it as well with the Fusion: HMD Fusion X1 mit Kindersicherung und einfacher Reparierbarkeit

They essentially offered three back-devices: additional light for photography, a gamer-pad for gamers and just some coloured stuff.

That one could potentially even physically fit into a TOH without too much adaptation:

I love their colour selection (indigo, magenta, cyan). The light ring thing that folds to either side and integrates into the cover is very interesting as a permanent attachment for people taking selfies. A bit less interesting for photography as unfortunately the JP lacks a macro lens.

Game controller… great, but I don’t see the added value of Jolla spending effort on it, several models already exist that can adapt to any phone.

Personally what I’d really want is a keyboard either slide like the fxtec or flip like the Gemini/Cosmo, it does not seem possible to buy one at any price right now.

Very good stereo microphone inside phone or quality mics to backcover

i love it when companies try new things and also ask the community for what they want. also being able to customize a device without needing to buy a whole new one and having it open source for more freedom is amazing. now considering a Jolla for my next phone when my current ones battery dies off.

Did anyone thought about having PCI Express (or USB-C) kind of connectivity to the TOH instead of I2C?

According to the announcement:

I haven’t used I3C, but to my understanding it is intended for much higher bandwidths than I2C. I think it may be able to carry signals for e.g. cameras and displays, in which case it might be possible to attach something USB-C to it.

I3C: 12.5 Mbit/s (SDR, standard), 25 Mbit/s (DDR), 33 Mbit/s (ternary)

I’d say have I3C as a basic option but design for additional PCIe/USB-C pins to have for TOH.

It is possible that the MediaTek smartphone SoC does not include a PCIe interface.
