You’re right guys, my bad - I got confused by the old articles about the 5€/month subscription.
I checked the Jolla shop again and it says the license is included in the phone price (from 649€). The subscription from 4.90€ is only after that period, plus there will be a perpetual license option.
So you don’t pay extra right after purchase. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the correction.

This is still not correct. The license is valid until the end of times (or until the phone is no longer supported, whichever comes first) and included in the price of the Jolla Phone, full stop. You never need to pay anything more than what you pay for the phone.
Or, I guess you could also say the Jolla Phone has no license, full stop.
Reframe and modernize your thinking.
Subscriptions help this fledgling initiative to survive and develop. Such parties aren’t cheap.

I’ve just gone through the Shop listings for the C2 and the JP, and this old wording (for the C2) is not present at all.
It may sound like we’re being picky, and I appreciate that there may be a language barrier, but it’s imperative these misunderstandings are removed.
Nobody said it was obsolete. It ia voluntary.

This misunderstanding was caused by AI. The AI mixed up info about the old Jolla C2 (12 months subscription) with the new Jolla Phone, where no such payment is stated.

Why not look for first hand resources like trying to directly open jolla.com or jolla.fi (since Jolla is a finnish company)? I’ll never understand that kind of approach.

Fighting AI Bulls^h^h^h^h^h Research with AI makes no sense to me. The point for me is the amount of time wasted by wasting time with AI instead of a few minutes of proper research.
But that’s just the thing. LLMs are built to generate plausible pieces of text, they are not designed to present correct information. Whether the information presented is truthful or not is very much random chance. Probably weighted one way or another depending on the training data but still random chance.
