Pedagogues, sociologists, developmental psychologists and teachers know better. Social science knows better. Not one of them will deny that society also has a duty to protect children. This doesn’t mean that parents have no responsibility. They are the first to care. If you are interested: social science lasts only 4 years nowadays. In the past it was 6,5 years fulltime.
Still doesn’t answer the absurd claim society has a duty to parent your children, society protects children just like adults from illegal stuff: theft, murder, rape, I am not going to do your parenting stuff for you, take some responsibility, your kid can phone a sex line, should we introduce phoneIDs? They can order playboy by snailmail, are we gonna introduce mailIDs? Somehow internet is different and everyone has to jump over backwards because ‘society has a duty towards random brats’, nah thanks, the argument is absurd
Protecting against what’s illegal and harmful is not parenting. What is legal and what is illegal is determined by societies. Unfortunately digitalisation/internet made illegal activity easier. That’s the problem we are facing and libertarianism cannot solve it.
How the heck do you want to fight with illegal activity by not letting me listen to the Spotify without a digital ID?
Protecting children is only a cheap excuse for stupid society for implementing control and censorship. Period.
Given that during past several years, the national ID system in my country has evolved to a stage that on android phone it won’t boot if any app has access to accessibility function (I can’t use KDE connect if I want to digitally proof I am I), I wouldn’t be too optimistic about it. An option will almost always someday become a enforcement when a government or a tech giant is involved. Some new adaptation of Pakinson’s law.
Absofuckinglutely! The ones who trade freedom for safety, deserves neither freedom nor safety! Same with Corona App and Covid Certificates…many of the people here on forum they felt safe with the fucking app, sharing their location and medical status with governments.
Jeez. I do that every time I fulfill a customer’s order. Their dime, my time, my lunch.
On the other hand, give me LiBERtY or at least a quiet spot at the back of the room.
I doubt you are exagerating!
It is funny to me that checking ID is somehow bad. Digital ID is a huge improvement to privacy because you can limit what information the checker has access to. Want to go to a bar? Here, have my government issued ID that shows all possible information about me to a random dude. Or send picture of your ID to tax reporting companies, so that they can file taxes for you…
If implemented correctly, this is actually a huge improvement to privacy and safety. It can also help secure many websites from botting since they can limit the traffic from non-verified users. All of this can be done without exposing ANY critical information to the app.
IF implemented correctly
Big IF, you’re playing dumb here expecting ppl behind the cookie banners to do anything correctly, or just stop trolling here and go on github and tell them how to implement this correctly so rooted devices (all sfos) can also use this perfectly implemented privacy tool, oh wait, root is a no go? So what are you doing here telling us about ‘correct implementation’ as it will always make sfos non compliant and unusable in your perfect ‘gov respecting your privacy’ scenario (that also requires gov implemented correctly I assume, so dumb people can’t elect dumb gov?)
Edit: like seriously I think we need to start a petition so Ursula listens to Sefriol how to implement SMS correctly, getting a Big Brother tool implemented correctly is kind of important if they can’t get basics like sms right, right? Think of the children
There are already so many apps that don’t work on SFOS.
Several of the apps I need require biometrics/verifications from big name manufacturers. I have a separate tablet with all the mandated apps (bank, healthcare, government). Some of these apps require the device to have cellular signal so I pay for a separate SIM (a cheap pay-as-you-go). I had to upgrade my physical Samsung tablet (S7 to S9) to keep the banking app working. Maybe a software cleanup would be sufficient but I’m not proficient with Android and I have little interest. For similar reasons I have no hope of having these advanced apps work on the SFOS Android emulation.
One already needs to be very stubborn to keep using SFOS. So I think adding the age verification won’t change a lot for SFOS users who are as stubborn as I am. Those apps will just go to a separate Android/iOS device.
