It looks to me like Fahrplan would be (at least partially) invoking the default Deutsche Bahn search page in HTML and then trying to make sense of the output.
Deutsche Bahn have been kind enough to provide me with an API key to their XML backend which would possibly open the avenue to a more robust approach. Still, there seems to be little demand for such an app.
