I don’t understand the whole bitterness about the cases. If I find something too expensive I just don’t buy it.
And if I know suppliers and how it can be done cheaper, I surely wouldn’t waste my time being sour about it in forums. I would just produce the cases myself and make money instead.
No, you’re not reasonable. Making one case might cost some k€. Making 10,000 costs some €. We’ll see if 3P parts are going to be available and compare prices.
But if you can make 10.000 cases and sell them for 3€, don’t you think that everyone would buy from you instead of Jolla?
I would really enjoy a leather case or even a silicone one for example and Jolla doesn’t have one.
The price for the phone is somewhat high, but it’s a unique piece of technology supported by an unique OS with millions of man hours of work behind it.
On the other hand, 30 € for some cents of molded plastic is NOT what I call fair price.
Sure, this is your opinion and it’s fine.
If you buy the phone either use it as is or make your own case is what I would recommend.
Cases are optional anyway.
I had a look at two of the offers for Fairphone 6 cases with most orders, for around 3 EUR. Both of them had some devastating review showing that either the product does not fit the description or is poorly designed and does not properly protect the cameras. Proving the point of the others here. You get what you pay for for 3 EUR.
Regulatory compliance, customers service, quality control, product safety (regular skin contact!) are probably all things those offers had zero money spent on, because those cost multiple times the production costs. By the looks of it, I have the impression they more often than not have not even properly designed the thing for the phone, certainly not iterated on the design.
I usually buy third party accessories, but I wanted to help Jolla so took their Jolla case, and instead of the usual Boulanger screen protection resin film (https://www.boulanger.com/evenement/protection-ecran-smartphone), bought the privacy gorilla glass tampered screen protector.
personally, i find that the ‘cover is too expensive’ back-and-forth is really annoying to have on the community news thread. i would prefer updates to be community news related. please start a new topic to yell into the void about your business expertise if you must. or you know, just dont buy the thing you dont want to buy.
it is especially irritating to hear all the whinging knowing that jolla has promised to release full TOH specs specifically so that we can print our own
How many J2 are sold right now? 12000? So nearly every phone would have to get one, if you produce 10000, right? But maybe I don’t want one. OK, lets dump it, it is just resources, who cares.
The prices are really exagerated. 30€ for a silicon cover and 20€ for a protective glass!!! Needless to say I won’t take them from you and will wait for a chinese copy. I knew I would have to pay more to get rid of spying american OS but I disagree with the unbalanced level of greed liberals have reached.
Why not consider these more-than-ever-discussed 8 or 12 ‘excessive’ € as a voluntary gift to Jolla? Complementary to the voluntary subscription?
Afaik, Jolla is not a highly valued company on the stock market, with millions in profits distributed to numerous shareholders to buy yachts with the money we save on our food.
It’s a small team with vision, determination, courage, and perhaps even a few ideals.
Very random discussion all together, but Fairphone sells low end of 100 000s phones, Jolla is currently at low end of 10 000s. 10x difference is in my opinion quite big of difference. Of course I hope Jolla phone will get huge boost to that scale and over quickly
hey i tried. this thread is currently worth less than an injection molded back cover. in the meantime, jolla is laughing at you all from their mountains of treasure hoarded from back cover preorder sales. (on a side note…are you ok zuper? are the greedy liberals in the room with us now?)
here’s hoping jolla’s hoarded treasure can cover sourcing the ram for batch3/etc
