Yes, they fixed one problem for 10iv/v.
They stated in the february-community-meeting, that without new blobs there wont be big steps for this phones.
Iām really sceptical Sony will release proper blobs at this point after so long sadly. The official-community port seems to be the only option, could even be crowdfunded to help it get off the ground
My C2 is updated without any problems. Thanks !
Still believing that in mid 2026 and beyond Sony would care to develop groundbreaking improvements in 10 IV and 10 V blobs is literally unserious. As itās been said many times, there is actually only one REALISTIC way to (relatively easily and cheaply) get out of this mess: āmakeā (see below) some developer(s) experienced in porting create a Lineage OS based community port. Especially that there are quite good opportunities for that because official Lineage OS support for both those devices already exists, which makes things much easier. By āmakeā I mean simply reward someone to do the job, which by no means needs to be official.
This is a simple test for Jolla, their credibility and how they treat customers. No matter what caused that they officially announced supporting those models back in 2024 (was it a miscalculation, pressure, whatever else), they simply did it and made hundreds of people spend their money, which for many of them was quite an expense. So they simply OWE those people some solution, definitely something more than just repeating that they canāt do much without Sony fixing their blobs. The cost of rewarding some developer(s) to make the port could then be regained by selling Android AppSupport licences for those two models.
But it is Jolla who needs to make the first move and encourage the porting job to be done. Or else it simply wonāt happen.
Ooops, big battery drain after listening music on a BT speaker on XA2 Dual.
To be observedā¦
I do still strongly hope for the full official port. I wouldnt want a community port for liability issues. But there is still some light at the end of the tunnel, an official port isnt as far as we could assume. Recent works from @mal hinted at least to a more or less working release this spring
noone talked about, if Jolla or myself believe they will come. but its a simple fact, that it depends on Sony.
you can say it over and over and over again, that Jolla should do a port based on lineage - it wont happen, even if you dont understand the reason/ believe them that there is a legal reason.
I have bought two 10iv myself, and there was the point i accepted, that i can wait for a working port or sell them with litttle loss of money (they havent been that expensive and they have not become worthless over night).
but to become constructive again: sony released for some blobs for years new updates - so your pessimistic view can be right, but also it is still possible they will come. second is, the lineage port for them is version 23.2, and there seems to be work done to make hybris work with that version, so a working communityport comes a little nearer.
can you point, where you see a working port is visible? its clearly stated in the communitymeeting, that it depends on new blobs.Else people get hope from your message and will blame Jolla in a few weeks, that there is still no working port, but there should because a dude said somewhere.
Right. It was in the community meeting logs, but not the last one though, iāll try to pin point the quotes when i get time.
Thatās probably very relevant. I remember that my phone did shut down on low battery, then i booted it on power plug, then a day later (without any subsequent reboot i think), i made the update. And the brightness was indeed very very low, much less than what can normally be achieved by adjusting the setting.
So if this is really dependant on Sonya new blobs this wonāt happen. Why? No because of Jolla, but rather Sony doing something for long dead platforms in their mind. Shame on Jolla that they ābelieve" this would happen.
Not only I do not say āover and over and over againā, but in fact I did not say it even a single time ever that āJolla should do a port based on Lineageā. What I said was that they should - be it officially or not - encourage / stimulate the creation of such a port by some community member(s) experienced in the porting job and device adaptation. Please, do not twist my words.
Iād say that it is actually you who must have misunderstood something. No one expects Jolla to release a LOS based port themselves, for legal reasons which are actually CLEAR and OBVIOUS. But a wholly different story is that they certainly can do a lot of different things to encourage creation of a community port by independent developer(s) who would not be bound by any such legal limitations. One of things that would certainly encourage creation of such ports would be to FINALLY make up their minds and clearly state whether they would eventually start providing AppSupport for community ports, or not. A question thatās been repeatedly asked for years. Not to even mention that itād be simply a source of income for Jolla, i.e. a company that allegedly has been permanently starving for funds.
I donāt know where did that point you accepted come from, because Jollaās announcement from May 2024 did not say anything about any risks involved with buying those devices or any necessity to wait unknown periods of time for a functional release. On the contrary, there were very strict and fixed dates given (within a quarter or so from that announcement) for the release of free version followed by commercial licenced components to be made available merely a month or two later (by August 2024). Since then (i.e. more than 1,5 year now), communication from Jolla regarding this topic has been so pathetically poor that only complete silence about the Mind2 can be seen as worse than that. Since mid 2024 they didnāt even bother to issue a single official statement about the 10 IV / V situation and its possible future developments, all we got during all those 18 months were a couple of rainemakās one-liners here and there and a few similarly short comments during community meetings. And even though they actually promised several times to issue detailed and official statement regarding the situation, among others a detailed blog post was promised sometime mid 2025, they didnāt do even just that. No one here expects wonders and we all have been more or less patiently waiting for many months, but at least properly communicating the current situation (and how in their opinion it might develop) certainly is what they simply OWE all those people who bought those devices based on their official announcement.
Not pessimistic but realistic. The problems in current blobs are most probably too severe to believe that they would be addressed by that tiny Sony AOSP team now after 2+ years during which literally nothing had been fixed on the Murray and Zambezi platforms. The 10 III got its last blobs in August 2024 (i.e. 2 years after it got replaced by a newer model), so it wouldnāt be surprising at all if at least the one year younger 10 IV stopped getting updates in 2025. Already now itās been 6+ months since actually ANY Sony binaries were updated on their website, so maybe this entire Sonyās Open Devices programme is slowly dying.
At least for the 10 V, there also exist older LOS 22.1 based releases.
I also updated my C2 to 76. It runs as expected.
Also the mobile network is on 4 levels /4G/ LTE. Iām using 1&1 mobile network. Thank you Jolla for your actual update.
The commitment of a random third party developper to keeping updating its IV/V port is completely hazardous.
Only an official port from @jolla is a safe bet for a warranty of decades of updates, and support. No zendesk for a portās error. No way to really check any malicious backdoor added (thinking here worst case scenario). No warranty that the developper will have something else to do and would stop its support, or just be unable to update to next sfos version for whatever reason.
I also bought some 10 V in the first lights of an official jolla port, and they are quietly waiting in their boxes, but i will definitely resell them, rather than flashing them with anything else than an official port (iām okay with some flaws inherent to jollaās port, like no fingerprint).
Anyhow thats just me.
And also lets keep this talk out of that .76 feedback thread, iād propose we continue here: New binaries / blobs for Xperia V and IV : What is happening actually?
I like that Jolla doesnāt do the version numbers race, but only bumping the ābuildā number (.76) is almost too shy
. A 2 versions bump in Android AppSupport is a significant improvement that would almost deserve incrementing the minor version number ![]()
Canāt wait to see what will come in 5.1!
Thank you Jolla!
The C2 launched with AAS for version 13 in the 5.0 branch, and slowly theyāve been able to roll it out to the different Xperias.
Theyāve already said 5.1 will branch off soon, and the Jolla Phone samples run on 5.2.
So hopefully, weāll be seeing 2 fairly big bumps this year. As ever, they have their work cut out.
My issue was not about updating, just about rebooting in general.
Like this: brightness very low while reading at night, switch the phone off, switch it back on the next sunny day, even going inside I could not see anything.
And yeah, I never use adaptive brightness on any device. I hate it.
Itās just one of those papercuts. Many small UX issues that take a lot of resources to address in their entirety. Iām not complaining or trying to put pressure on anybody!
Some flaws? Good joke. This āofficial portā has power consumption 3x the 10 III, it has all cameras disabled, awful bugs like bluebinder draining battery within a few hours if you donāt stop it manually after each reboot, stereo speakers both playing only the left channel, dead audio jack, no āactdeadā charging mode, and quite a lot more, to which the non-functional fingerprint sensor is only a small addition. Shortly speaking, after nearly 2 years it is still not suitable for ANY serious use. What was improved during all that time? Sony (not Jolla) managed to fix the broken battery indicator (and then in latest blobs they broke mobile network and wifi) whereas Jolla managed to enable the microphone for audio recording. And all of that took āmerelyā 18 months. So please keep waiting for all the remaining, much more severe issues to ever get fixed, good luck.
While at the same time I will keep enjoying my recently bought 1 IV running fantastic community port from Rinigus for the Nagara platform, whose very first release (thanks among others to the rock solid LOS base rather than that utter cr*p that Sony AOSP blobs have always been, always causing all kinds of issues on all official Xperia X ports) is already of better quality, functionality and stability than actually even the 10 III after 4 years of that āofficial supportā you praise so much (with still unfixed serious issues like disappearing audio, excessive idle power drain, in call echo, poor GPS performance, camera focus issues and broken color filters, and more), let alone the unusable 10 V that in 1,5 years got no serious fixes whatsoever. Rinigus is a reputable porter and developer famous of his previous Tama ports which heās been regularly supporting for years, just like his well known SFOS applications. But even if he dropped support for this new 1 IV port today and never released any further version, already now it is faster, more stable and usable than many of Jollaās āofficial portsā plagued by all those nasty flaws thay Sony blobs theyāre based on have always been full of.
As for security, are you really sure that you really know whatās precisely inside those Sony AOSP binaries? Are you certain that Jolla really knows it? Just as their name says, theyāre provided as binaries.
As for the current value and quality of service of Zendesk, see in other threads how people have been waiting for any response for 3 months and more. So Iād think twice before considering it an advantage.
Well, thatās it from me.
Where to get this, @wetab73 ? Please, what is āNagaraā?
edit: BTW I wonder why my few praehistoric Xperia10ās work rather fine and rather better with every update. Maybe because itās a 32bit system. I hope this information may be helpful for troubleshooting.
Sony Xperia 1 IV/5 IV is Nagara.
