well if that’s your deal breaker then tough luck, go back to android i guess
Sure it is, and still you get those questions and need an answer for them.
The very simplified and still ok-ish answer in many scenarios is: Jolla Store.
It is neighter totally true nor totall false.
A “I do not want to answer that because it simplifies thing way too much but if you force me to, I’d say it would be…” answer is fine, but sometimes you have to answer or you just will loose the questioning person.
I for myself use all three and do not see a problem with that of cause – I use SFOS for some years now too and you just can not use only one in my opinion.
But that doesn’t make the question invalid and I think he got his answer.
And I have a simple order for myself which is:
1.) Jolla store.
2.) Chum.
3.) OpenRepos.
4.) FDroid.
5.) Android software creator website (for instance WA)
6.) Aurora
7.) (other Android stores)
And at least point 7 is nothing I would use and only rarely I am using 5-6 anyway.
You dont have to agree to my list, it is just my opinion, which in general at the current state of things works out pretty ok for me.
Do people actually do that?
I mean, other than me (except I don’t use Android apps either), do most users really do that?
To be honest I would be (pleasantly) surprised if that were to be the case.
Do you really have some info to support this claim?
Or are you just venting?
From here below you’re not talking about sailfishos. Why bring android into conversation if we’re talking about sailfishos?
You seem to do that
and yes they do
I would imagine so yes, when you compare download statistics from jolla store to openrepos
Totally unrelated and off-topic, but in case anyone wants to use Android app stores and likes to do it similarly to zypper
or yum
or apt-get
, see APKeep:
Because all of these are a source for apps.
Yes of cause the upper once are native SFOS, while the others are Android, but to have a “more or less complete” list I put the “stores” in which might be used by me. As you can see I am favouring SFOS apps over Android once, but if you need APKs / Android once, there they are.
Well, @Furchur84, here we definitely leave this topic and enter a rather philosophical discussion how logic and proper debates should work; hence only briefly:
O.K., but how useful is a statement / assertion for which that is true?
IMO not at all, because it then is too ambiguous to deduct anything reasonable from it (i.e. here: which Stores to use).
A “I do not want to answer that because it simplifies thing way too much but if you force me to, […]" […]
Nobody must answer senseless questions by addressing their “content”. IMO one should always address them on the meta-level as many did and do:
- Wolfram Alpha: «I believe this can be translated as "INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER»
As an excellent reply to a really cool, nonsensical question! - Isaac Asimov: «Five words were printed: INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER.»
The absolutely astonishing thing is, that Wolfram Alpha’s (i.e. a machine’s) answer seems to be a witty word-play referring to this excellent short story by Asimov, which is mind-boggling in the light of the story’s content. - Star Treck
- Spock: «No analysis due to insufficient information.»
- The board computer on the Enterprise regularly provides similar replies; IIRC in both, the original series and TNG.
So, when confronted with such superior wisdom, are you now convinced?
You sure are free to choose what you think, say and communicate to others. But the latter two actions expose your statements to criticism.
No.
How can I compare those download statistics? Where can I find them?
Then you have some info to support that claim?
I would be impressed if it were true that most users only download from Jolla store.
Oh that’s quite simple. Publish app in both stores
This is for musikilo. App that not many people use cause you need your own nextcloud instance.
Meanwhile microtube, which is one of, if not the most popular of my apps, after update got downloaded 300 times. Latest version of musikilo for example was downloaded only 121 times and it was published forever ago.
You could attribute it to the fact that if people installed it from jolla store they wouldn’t install it from openrepos except it was first available in openrepos and then in jolla store. Also this example is good cause i only ever published one version of musikilo in jolla store so it doesn’t count all the downloads (which openrepos shows but thats misleading).
Difference is 4x more downloads. It’s no correlation, nor accident.
So, what am I comparing here? Two different apps?
How does this help me see which store has more downloads?
no the same app dummy
Wait, musikilo and microtube aren’t two different apps?
Can you finish reading?
I never stated anything such.
Please note that “sailors” means “Jolla employees” (and in general, the crew of a ship), the users of SailfishOS are merely passengers on that boat.
I did say that, and I stand by it
I did finish reading.
I don’t understand which number is 4 times which other number.
Who is 4 times bigger than who?
