New binaries / blobs for Xperia V and IV : What is happening actually?

I am not familiar with the script but can’t you just update it to use the v4b blobs?

Just rename the v4b file to what v4a is named

Hello there is a way that I can install sailfish again I had installed it on my 10 v then I went back to Android latest version because too many problems when I wanted to reinstall the phone made it impossible to reboot to stabilize it I tried lineage os the installation went well but no touch screen I tried again the installation of sailfish it went well but message boot_a not found tried lineage os again and it just restarts. Is there any way I can get my phone back?

You need to install Android again first.

If you are using Linux on a computer, xperifirm is useful to download the desired Android. With newflasher you can then flash the Downloaded Android, boot into it to finish installation und unlock the bootloader again if required. From this point reflash SFOS

To springboard, here’s a very detailed instruction by Jolla for reverting back to Android on Windows.

(Apparently because of) having initially flashed my Xperia 10 V to Sailfish from Android 13, Emma only did allow me to select Android 13 as the service to revert to. The step-by-step OTA updating to the latest Android 14 was very tedious, but now with v4b blobs I finally got a functioning batterymeter and WLAN internet sharing doesn’t wreck itself after five minutes.

In case you need to lock the bootloader for the OTA updates per the instructions, booting to the fastboot mode happens by holding the VOLUME UP button of the phone while connecting it to the computer by USB. A blue light lits on the phone if successful.

Changing the blobs to v4b had a slight hiccup which was sorted out by adding some parameters to the command.

anyway it looks like we will not get functional phone until Christmas 2025, so they will be late year+ with their promises… :frowning:

i just expecting that they will call out that they have Christmas holidays like everything is done and no care about upset users who spend money for unusable xperia10V just because they promised Christmas 2024 to be fully supported phone …

actually lets hope that they will not act like deaf to us just because there will be new JP-2 …

!! JOLLA PLEASE DO NOT PUT HEAD IN THE GROUND LIKE OSTRICH DOES !!

(From ostrich farming experience: they lay their neck and head ON the ground, not “in”, for perhapy fairly obvious reasons of dying of suffocation in sand or whatever else.)

But yeah, I learned my “new devices” lesson from Jolla Tablet days / years, where I purchased a “candidate” off the shelf device early, and then this support never materialized. So continuing to patiently stick with X10III, basically the only generally daily driveable SFOS phone model available.

At this point I stopped with any hopes that jolla would deliver. Anyway what they did until this point is kindly inform us that working fingerprint sensor not happening, camera maybe, everything else maybe. At the time they are bussy with extoring money from people who believe that their new platform won’t be a failure like c2.

Assuming they will eventually decide it’s time to move IV and V forward they will be bussy solving usual bugs with their new phone as it is bigger customer base.

Im almost finished with collecting enough money to buy newer google pixel and walk away with it. I was tempted to put my money on new jolla phone, but after seeing what jolla is doing (Starting new projects before old ones are finished) it really seems like money is all they care about.

You can all hate me as much as you will, but new jolla phone will be hated even more.

They certainly did not have as much control over the Xperias as they will hopefully have over the J2. That’s why it’s totally possible that the V will never work but the J2 will, and that does not have to be entirely Jolla’s fault. Except maybe for their traditional lack of clear communication.

I have made peace with the fact that my unused Xperia 10 V is doomed to sit in a drawer forever, after already being there for over a year, and I have preordered a J2.

499 eurodollars is roughly the cost of a single evening out with the family, so it does not seem like much to pay for being free of Android, Google and AI for at least a few years.

I think they will get it to X10III level eventually, but AOSP vs proprietary blobs quality betting on AOSP really bit them in the ass and is causing massive delays. OTOH Idk if betting on proprietary blobs was even possible for licensing or whatever other reasons. Same idea probably already circles around in some other :thread:s here.

I’m as bummed by this as anyone else here, but be mindful that people nagged Jolla into pre-announcing. Jolla then pre-announced a port for the first time ever. Be careful what you wish for.

I completely agree with the point you made here!

Although I have been mostly happily using the 10 V for the past 1½ year and will probably have to do so for the next 9 months but it’ll probably take some time, and the longer to get the J2 in my hands

499 eurodollars for basicly unknown device (yes, there are some specs) is 499$ too much. Remember that Jolla C2 based on the numbers should fall between xperia 10 II and 10 III but in real world was lagging behind old XA2?

Everything jolla present if they even care to do it looks great on paper but with deliveries comes disappointment. And yes they have little to no control over xperias, but they didn’t nor do they have right know control over C2. What was the main solution for getting sharp pictures with C2 camrea? Install ANDROID Open Camera app… This isn’t control, this is just a way to sell, make money on people hopes and dreams.

If the new platform turn out to be different I will come back here, apologize everybody and buy new phone no matter the price at that point. You can write down this statement and keep it until new device is released. Jolla delievers so much frustration and disappointment every time I force myself to trust them again that Im happy new/old user of android on my 10 V for few days and it performs flawlessly. Before you judge my choice saying that sfos is more secure, it really isn’t, it is just a bald claim made to bring in some more users that eventually will pay in some way or another.

Android isn’t safe too, it looks like GrapheneOS is, but Im not sure, it may be just another bald claim. Maybe there is no real safe alternative for android, so why even bother to use different os like sfos with years long bugs that comes from device to device with new devices comes with whole new set of bugs, where you can just stay with android that simply works? It is not free of bugs, nothing is. But in comparation it is just much much better

The problem is that without pre-orders, there would be no new phone. Some have decided to risk some peanuts to make it possible, many because they believe in Jolla to deliver (my Xperia 10 III works great), some out of desperation because there seem to be few real alternatives, and some maybe out of curiosity.
For me, it is a combination of all of the above.

You do not have to be on board with the new phone from day one, I understand that. There have been some serious disappointments along the way, so I cannot blame you at all.

The last time I tried to use Android for some tasks it was enough of a frustrating experience, this is absolutely not an option. I’d rather buy a dumbphone.

What promise? I read this forum quite diligently, and I haven’t seen any promises.

With other words, I think you are wrong. But if you are not wrong, and I missed the promise, I would very much like to know. So please tell me where or when did they made promises?

I don’t say that sailfish is completly unusable. My expirence with 10 III which I was using up until this point was…
…moderate. Every device that came after was such a dissapointment.

But even 10 III which has been around for some time. Audio disappearing, using gps with android navigation apps causes crash of appsupport (When you driving in unknown place it is really frustrating). Yeah there are pure maps, which I would gladly use as I really like it’s simplicity, but there where many problems lately with routing, and there is no viabale option for traffic information.
Add to this problem, when I’m in car using bluetooth and someone calls me there is no audio, I need to call them back each and every time. While driving a car!.
And then suddenly audio stops working completly and I need to reboot the phone which takes very long time…

On android on the other hand there is no even one problem mentioned above. Like I said, it just works.

Using android just as it is may be frustrating expireince, as I don’t like it’s UI at all (This is where sfos really shines, no other ui like this!)
But I can trade ui expirience for various other things that do not cause any problems. Really using android for those few days opened up my mind, that phone could just be your asistant asking no questions and executing this exactly as you expect.

At the end sfos was never close to android reliability, and for last 2-3 years it drifted even further away that cause me to do some trade offs. Like above I don’t like android interface, but I can use it as all other things I expect from the phone don’t make me mad. Where alternative is very nice interface that provides things that don’t work well or don’t work at all.

EDIT. If the new phone would be best sailfish ever and all of those bugs that exists for years won’t be once again ignored by jolla, Im all in. But this seems very unlikely.

And I know for the new phone to happen jolla needs preorders as nothing comes free, but I really admire all the people that despite all the problems and frustration still are (sorry for be so direct) dumb enough to even provide one euro from their own pockets.

I never really “lost” any money on jolla. I returned C2 very quickly as it didn’t deliver anything jolla was promissing. Only money spent where few licences, but those I consider as payment for excpirence something different, something that will soon die if jolla continue to provide more and more frustration.

Everything I expect from a phone works with zero issues on mine, including App Support and navigation. It is interesting how we can have such different experiences with SFOS, but that would explain why we may hold such opposing views.

It has been a rock-solid daily driver for me for years. There is nothing I would consider unreliable. Plus, it has Sailfish apps that I know will not spy on me and will not just refuse to cooperate when I try to open them and they suddenly stop working because I have not installed an update in 3 days. At least that’s the experience I remember when trying out Android.

I am sorry you had a bad experience, and I understand that you may prefer an ugly UI over a defective device, but that is not a universal experience with Sailfish, at least not mine and anyone I know.

This really seems really different isn’t it? My point and your point. I really would like to be a happy user of sailfish.

I would argue. Not universal? There at at least few topics for each one problems I mentioned avaiable on this forum. So years long with no real solution and with very little to no input from jolla. Many problems exists since I entered sailfish (2021) and for some are some workarounds provided mainly by users, and very few provided by jolla.

But wait, workarounds from the os provider itself? For better pictures don’t use our native app, install android app? This is todays reality that products are tested on users. I don’t mind that as long as those testing are temporary and maintainer provides solutions, not workarounds!

That could be some form of bias, though.
How many people will open a thread because something worked 100% as they expected?

I don’t want to negate your experience. It may be down to luck and different priorities.
But I don’t see any ill will on Jolla’s part. They do what they can do and work with what they have.
Yes, there are still old issues but there’s also only so much time and hours in a day.

E.g. they have been more-or-less pressured into announcing the support for Xperia 10V and are probably kicking themselves now.
