Thank you for this information about Cloud Messaging. I was close to bursting a vein when that hellspawn of an app kept claiming that the QR code is already used. Finally got past that bit of the setup.

I have to revise this statement of mine in the meantime: It worked and still works for me without Play Services for âsimplerâ applications like 2 factor authentication for certain mail providers.
It doesnât work for a VPN connection establishment for a specific VPN infrastructure product. The account created for that in MS Authenticator doesnât work.
MS Authenticator is deleting your passwords and moving them where you can only get to them using Microsoft software:
It depends a little on the M365 settings by the administrator too.
They can set up the system in a way, that only MS Authenticator is useable.
I use FoilAuth with TOTP for ours and that is working nicely and flawlessly. There is no bigger security drawback to use TOTP / alternative authenticator, so maybe ask your admin if s/he can activate that.
