I’d advise to move away from MS regardless.
It is going to be cat-and-mouse with MS upping requirements (and reducing options). I predict:
- 2FA is optional now, will become mandatory
- currently 2FA supports non-MS authentication apps, this will move to MS Authenticator only
- MS Authenticator will move away from standard TOTP (they already have that additional nonstandard 2digit push thing)
- In the name of security, MS Authenticator will go the way of many Banking apps and rely on SafetyNet, FireBase and other proprietary spyware
- everything will stop working for any third party software that is not Microsoft-on-Google
- trying to continue using non MS software will run the risk of account deletion (either in the name of security, or TOS).
They will shut you off from your email and other data sooner or later. Migrate to sone trustworthy provider while you still can.
