[Jolla Tablet] short tap on links in email content did not open SailfishOS Browser nor show select page

DESCRIPTION:

Trying to open SailfishOS Browser by tapping on a link on an email content did not work.

PRECONDITIONS:

email with links e.g.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. open email
  2. choose email with links
  3. tap on link

EXPECTED RESULT:

Browser should open
or window popup which allow selecting app to open (when additional app are installed which can be used)

ACTUAL RESULT:

no app starts
(or in my configuration) an other app starts (e.g. ‘Fernschreiber’ app on my Tablet).
Removing ‘Fernschreiber’ app, no app started (see above).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

On community port for Fairphone2 the behaviour is correct.
In my case a popup window allow selecting the desired app.
Btw. ‘Fernschreiber’ should not be shown here. It should be shown on ‘long tap’ → share :thinking:

Already reported here, among other places.
TL;DR some apps feel they are more important than keeping links working and register as handlers for “http://” despite not being browsers. This has broken even more than usual when Jolla cleaned up their handling of how the Browser registers.

Unfortunately apps cannot register to be shared with; only separate sharing plugins can do that.
