Yes, that is how the TOH was identified and the associated package (ambience, driver, …) was downloaded and installed on J1.
Which means it may trigger an enumeration on the I²C bus or something similar that may not be applicable on J2. I guess I’ll see in August (if everything goes according to plan 
).

Didn’t Jolla already reveal that the TOH connector on the phone has sense pin to detect when TOH with electronics is connected/disconnected and ID pin to help phone decide how to try to parse what is actually connected and how to configure it?

Sure, which would mean a service would then have to poll the bus. Generally, you need the burnt in ids of the devices you want to talk to (ie. have a driver) so, having some signal, nfc, you would need to poll at that point any way. So, a reboot should not be needed.
Okay. But the sense pin is a I3C feature, that I2C doesn’t have. That’s why I asked.
I guess I will try to go to the next community meeting. Ask about it. Does the hardware problem make it fallback to I2C completely? Or does it just run at I2C speeds, while I3C features still work? Or the other way around, where we miss the I3C features, but we do have the speed. And if there is something with the features, what features work and what features don’t.
I’ll try tomorrow to find room in the busy family life to attend to the community meeting. Or is there someone who will go in my place if I can’t make it?

Regarding the whole I3C / I2C fix, did others understand the email from Jolla same way that they should start to receive the fixed boards in early August? Quote from email: “ the TOH interface itself works but only on I2C mode for now and a revised sub-board will be applied in future batches from August onwards.”
Earlier if I remember correctly they were talking “by the end of August”.
Edit. As Rainemak has liked my message, I assume it really means that Jolla has been able to push the delivery of fixed boards for earlier! This is very good news as it will results less phones in the wild with old I2C board = less hassle for Jolla to handle those = more focus for our beloved SFOS / Jolla phone

I have gotten the idea that they will give people the choice to have Jolla send out a new subboard and let people change it themselves, or let people send in their phones for Jolla to change them.

Of course, my “Procrastination Always Pays Off Now” motto also applies in this case by not getting in on too early a batch and just skipping the grief altogether. (As if I really thought I’d get crackin’ on an I3C Other Half the instant my eagerly anticipated phone gets delivered in a few months . . .)

Any confirmation that the August batch device are shipped with I3C board?
Not from me at least, yesterday only I got the notification regarding the tracking number from Posti. I don’t know how to verify that when the phone arrives?
Considering Jolla haven’t posted about the fixed I3C boards arriving, it’s unlikely they’ve arrived or been installed into any newly shipped phones yet.

I did email them earlier that I would wait for the I3C board. The package is now shipped.
But as you said,no confirmation of it yet.
