Is Sailfish really more secure than other mobile OSs?

The phone always must be treated like a raw egg!

just use a finger from the other hand

It is really a bad idea to use one phone for private and company behaviours!
I did not use the SailfishOS feature to create a second user (i suggested this years ago on the old Sailfish forum because of the security problem above), but now i did not need it any more .
May be creating a second user is a solution to split private and company behaviours.
But it also should be possible to assign different SIM, different apps, … to the different users, to get a really split usage.

Nearly everyone in The Netherlands uses Whatsapp: 13.4 million. The number of Dutch inhabitants is about 18 million. It’s crazy. Even a verb was created: ‘appen’. Husband and I never used it, nor were we on Facebook… This wasn’t easy but slowly people begin to understand. Our family at first used on our request Telegram, but since Durov gave acces to it and since it is a medium for illegal practices, we all switched to Wire Secure Messenger, EU jurisdiction. I already used that instead of Skype on my laptop. Unfortunately none of my Sailfish devices supported video calling with Wire. No phone number needed, only email and a password.

I remember that this happened at least one time with Sailfish. It was a developer from Russia. Fortunately it was noticed by others. At the end it’s always about trust. An independent universal organisation that certifies tech will never come I suppose.

Wire video calls work on my XA2 SFOS 4.6.0.15, wire 4.10.0-58708-prod from Aurora store.

I don’t know why the police would want to unlock your phone, but I guess there’s a much higher chance you’ll be politely asked for your PIN by some random thug waving a gun in your face.
Maybe it would be cool to have some kind of “duress PIN code,” like bank vaults do.

that probably depends on the level of rule of law in your country

That’s probably true. If the police are perceived as more of a threat than criminals, then there must be something seriously wrong.

Better have no illusions about the power and sneaky strategy of Facebook/Meta. They maintain shadow accounts of non-FB users. They are, like Google, in everything and our data are for sale… How else could Shopify have known my mobile number while I never gave it to any shop? What does Meta do with contact lists on Whatsapp? A friend calls me with Whatsapp and bingo.

Lucky you! Though it isn’t really helpful if someone replies after a complaint with ‘Mine works fine!’ This happens often.
Video calling doesn’t work on my XA2, nor on my XA2 plus. My 10 III still has an echo during the call, also with speaker on. At the moment I have no proper working Sailfish device.
‘Proper’ means in my case: a reliable working satnav, video calling with my family abroad and the possibility to use Tutamail. Is this too much asked after more than 10 years using Sailfish?

Wire:
I’ll be more verbose: If it works for me and it doesn’t work for you on the same device, you have a good chance to make it work for you.
With or without the help on this forum.
So, allow me to disagree with you: It helps answering that it works somewhere else.

The standardization of the use of a single app to exchange media and text messages like WhatsApp on most of the globe and LINE one most of Asia can be bad in terms of security of course.
WE are the weird people not using such apps or even using regular text messaging (which most people forget exists sometimes cause mobile data connection or wifi is always ON)…

“Press Power button 5 times to disable fingerprint unlock if the cops try to force you to unlock your phone with your fingerprints”

Why is this not implemented on Sailfish?
It seems like an easy thing to do that I would certainly want on a privacy centric OS.

At least, for the moment, we have power button long press.
Not handy but, in case of emergency, this will disable the fingerprint reader too.
