How do the x86 Sailfish images run?

I am tempted to buy one of those intel chromeos tablets and install sailfish os on it as though it is a computer. How is general hardware compatibility? Has anyone done this and enjoyed it? I miss having a sailfish os tablet, but I’m struggling to conceive of a good port candidate and cba if I’m being honest.

I tried it once a few (?) years ago and it didn’t work. So I think it really depends on what hardware you try to run it on.

very unfortunate. I’m sad that interest in a solid sailfish os based tablet is practically dead. I saw one thread for an x86 touchscreen tablet that ran the image well enough and even had waydroid support, but now it is several years old. I can’t seem to find any recent x86 or x64 sailfish os images anyways.

I don’t think so. Me for instance is very interested, I’ve wanted one ever since I ordered the Jolla Tablet (and got fucked), and I still want one.
I also think I’m not alone, so please let us know if you find a flash able working hardware that is still purchase able. :slightly_smiling_face:

Reeder also has tablets, so if Jolla’s partnership with them continues, official Sailfish tablets could be on the table again one day.

Mee too! For hobby. But, on the other hand, i’ve also got a 10 inch minilaptop with full hd resolution screen running full featured desktop linux, it fits into the handbag, so why + for what struggling around with buggy SFOS and a castrated browser and prehistoric linux kernel… Can anyone tell me?

I think the most important reason is: tablets are fun to use! And Sailfish’s interface is well-suited to tablets, too: on a 10-inch screen (and even a 7-8-inch screen), Android’s tiny buttons feel even tinier.

Yes, @nthn , aside from the bugs and missing features, SFOS has a wonderful UI and would imho run best at a 7-8 inch tablet.

Totally agree, Sailfish UX is beautiful in my eyes. I have a 7.2 inch phone lying around here (Huawei Mate 20X). If I would Sailfish OS got to run on it, it would be my perfect dteam device

the pinetab 2 port looks mostly useable with camera and BT not working. The hunt continues.
EDIT: There is also the Xperia Z3 Compact tablet with mostly ready to go build sources. If it didn’t require importing from Japan, I’d jump on it immediately.

It looks like the old hardware adaptions table from years ago is not updated anymore. lots of new ports on this forum that are not on the table!

There is an updated x86_64 image, it may be of interest…
