Future of browsers in SFOS

I see here a very nice chance for new Linux running engines like Servo, WebKit and Ladybird. Happy to see the Orion browser (WebKit) coming to Linux. So there are a lot of options. Also, UBports has his first WebKit based browser project Mimibrowser.

But yes, Firefox is a gold standard. Hope the project will survive these interesting times.

Just read on slashdot:

A critical root certificate expiring on March 14, 2025 will disable extensions and potentially break DRM-dependent streaming services for Firefox users running outdated browsers. Users must update to at least Firefox 128 or ESR 115.13+ to maintain functionality across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android platforms.

This sounds bad but I have not time to check, if it really will be a problem for us.

If the extension author re-releases the code signed with new certificate it won’t be an issue.

Assuming there is such a certificate that also the old browsers have a chain of trust to.

Well the thing with other outdated browsers is that they are unmaintained. The SFOS browser is maintained and could very likely get an update addressing only that.

That’s what I was hoping for.
Now who is the right person to alert to fix this mess?

@rainemak can you help?
