I personally think that adding support for Plasma (even in a form of some cooperation with KDE eV) would bring a big added value to the platform because that would attract new users.
The cooperation IMO is needed not only with KDE, but among all non-Android mobile Linux flavours â namely Gnome Mobile/Phosh and Ubports as well.
However, I donât think adding Kirigami, GTK, Flutter or whatever else to the system is any solution â supporting Flatpak and Flathub is, along with XDG portals.
Complete support for Flatpak and installing apps from Flathub allows users to install lots of apps which are already there â and significant number of them already mobile-friendly. You basically get Kirigami, libadwaita, flutter or whatver else in one go without needing to add any new toolkit to the system.
Of course the future of Silica is another story â the best way would be open-sourcing it, moving to Qt6 and also creating a Sailfish Flatpak runtime, so that Silica apps can be packaged as Flatpaks as well â then other mobile OS-es could install apps developed for Sailfish as well.
Was there any Jollaâs official statement on open-sourcing Silica BTW? Anything like âwe would likeâ/âthere are legal blockersâ/âwe donât wantâ?
Iâm not aware of that.
We just verified that latest OP-mobiili works with the latest work-in-progress changes that we also showed in Stockholm. Unfortunately this does not yet help with S-mobiili (S-Pankki).
This one just is stunning work, thank you for everything ![]()
Amazing! Way to go Jolla team! Big thanks! ![]()
Now we just have to wait for the update, just like the kids wait for ChristmasâŚ
