Android Enshittification process -> Let's promote Sailfish OS

All cool, I understand the situation. Definitely didn’t mean to decide other phones

Just thought I might as well start on the device I will be using going forward. Issues with other hardware may obviously not :crossed_fingers: be the same on the new phone.

Just trying to walk in with both eyes open… and keep my head down in this developers environment

Thanks NIS, this is about where I thought and hoped the OS would be. I was just beginning to have some doubts. As I cross over to SFOS, I may initially need the App support, but already thinking I’ll change my approach to which Apps I really need to carry. Already been scanning Chum etc for replacements :+1:

I’m not a developer. I am a tinkerer, but my reply did not flout that to you. Just basic common sense arguments, no master in CI required.

Such statements are just what I was refering to wrt “negativity”.

Just to say AAS has given me the crutch, if needed, to encourage the change. I look forward to the pure SFOS experience after some adjustment period.

All insight from tinkerers or otherwise is gratefully received :+1:

Welcome! I must say that generally this forum is very helpful if you have any problems. But I have to admit that communication with new comers could be improved.

It is true that some topics have been talked over and over, but as a new comer I wouldn’t at first try to search everything if I have some questions on my mind. And the information is a little bit scattered around here in the forum so you need to read quite a lot to understand situation.

I have still quite little hands on experience with SailfishOS, but as a non tech person in any front it has been smooth ride. Only place where you might need to do some tricks imo is with some android apps to get them working. Almost only reason why I reboot the Sony Xperia III is lost audio, which seems to be more or less problem with Sony phones, so hopefully not present with Jolla phone. Enjoy the ride

Thanks for your appraisal, it’s reassuring.

I have certainly spent a few hours trying to glean information regarding the new phone and SFOS. I can see why the structure has evolved like it is and bookmarks have helped to tie snippets together. Community news is not where I would instinctively look for new product detail, but I’m finding my way around slowly :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

As someone who has been accused of having a short temper with some new users, I want to say this:
I’m happy to answer the same questions over and over again from new users if the questions seem genuine.

What I am totally allergic to is new users coming in without bothering to read the forum at all, and then posting AI-generated walls of text about how they think Jolla should be run as a company or how the Sailfish community should behave. Such behavior seems, at best, very egocentric, and at worst, another attempt to troll the community.

If dont want to answer and have alergie, then maybe it would be better just ignore such questions?

I can ignore the question but I’m not willing to accept the toxicity low effort AI posting brings into the community.

Yes, I agree in this point

I agree with AI generated content, but maybe we should try to ignore those more? Now they always seem to go on very long
