Your primary phone

I could tell a long story on that… I always watch from different point of viewes on that

As a normal user (no tech eyes) the jp2 is a really good device and the software did major steps forward. With some openess you wont get disappointed I think. Some lack of comfort in few situations but we have to have a look what we are going tryin to compare. Multi-Billion dollar us companies with a small european brand. With that in mind its totally outstanding what you get with that mobile.

Yes maybe here and there some compromises but absolutely usable as a daily driver and if its really the case that something really dont work, some app maybe, put on the iPhone mini you have and do it there…

Also see the great things you do - support the openess, youre not the product, help eu souveranity and so on…

And it’s good to keep a second spare device on hand. I have still my Jolla C2 and keep it updated.

And @carepack all true, I completely agree. I was just blinded by all the tech and code that’s also a part of Jolla, but obviously only if you really want to nerd out, which I completely welcome.

I do miss a thread about which apps actually work and not all those about what doesn’t. I know that most android apps apparently work and that some Nordic (I’m Danish) payment apps don’t.

I’ve searched for a thread on this but without luck.

Also, I accidentally found out that I can export my iPhone to android. Does anyone know where I can find info on this here? Because I can’t

At least for banking apps

Migrate to a regular android from ios is realized with a specific app and you have to try if this is a working approach.
My suggestion would be to start from scratch.
For files and pictures and so on… Easiest way would be to put those on a sdcard… But ios / apple makes it hard to leave theire universe.
Do you have something in the cloud?
I think the best is too look at it specific. What do you want to migrate and whats the current location of it?
Then we could go through step by step

Oh, but realized we are off topic now. A new thread or pm would be more accurate

What is possible is to export your contact data at least. I don’t know about the rest as I did only that when transitioning from an iPhone 12 to the JP26.

There is a very hidden option in the contact settings on the iphone for crearing that file (without any cloud nonsense). If you search online specifically for that you should find something.

Regarding the question how much you have to be “into tech” to use the JP26, the answer is: whatever you prefer. Setting up the phone is easy. The easiest experience is to use the Jolla Store and for anything not there, the Android layer. I would recommend installing the native stores CHUM and Storeman. Just follow that tutorial. These stores give you some more nice native apps than the Jolla store alone.

Only if you want to use some more experimental native apps you really need to get comfortable with the terminal and the Linux underbody. But not every experimental app requires that. It might be enough to download an rpm file and press “install” in the download notification (after activating “installing untrusted software”, which any software outside a store is).

You are missing ml at the end of the link!

I also wrote quick tutorial on how to install Chum GUI and Storeman on other thread some time ago:

Apps in the official Jolla Store have been vetted by Jolla, in Chum the apps are built from opensource, and Storeman (Openrepos) is kinda the wild west, but sticking to the popular apps and apps by well known creators is generally safe.

I just checked online and the Jolla Phone is apparently within few grams of iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro, so you can use it as a comparison if someone you know has those phones. The first time I picked up the new Jolla Phone, I commented how heavy it was (I was used to my old phone), but after few days, I didn’t even notice the weight anymore.

I have been using SFOS devices from the year 2013 as my daily drivers and I don’t have second phone. I’m able to make calls, send messages, camera works (they haven’t been the best, but I’m sure the Jolla Phone’s camera will get better with software updates and calibrations) and I don’t remember never having issue with native apps not working. Android app support has only gotten better over they years and the only real issue with those are the app creators who hide their dodgy security solutions behind the Android Play Integrity.

I had an extra look at transferring to android and apparently I just have to put the devices next to each other. It won’t transfer health data and a few other things but apps should be fine :crossed_fingers::blush:

Jolla C2 as daily driver for a couple of years. No problems, very usable ‘phone. Desktop now Fedora Linux. Wish I had done this years ago. Firefox, Proton Suite and Linn (for the HiFi).

Not a Boomer! Older than that, wartime baby.

How about putting on a happy-hat and buying the Jolla phone?
It’s a great phone.

I need android (One Plus) only for syncing Suunto (9 Baro) watch. MobilePay would be fine to get working, but I can live without it. Android Auto would be nice too.
edit: wireless charging would be great too

Been using my JP2026 as a primary device since the moment i got it a few weeks ago, it’s been an absolute joy so far!

Came across from Android (As a begrudged user for more years than i can remember now) with my last device being a Samsung S22u - had been watching SFOS and other linux phone attempts from the sideline for a few years, but never saw a device that made me comfortable enough to jump.

Despite being early days for the device, thoroughly impressed with what’s here currently and very much looking forward to hopefully seeing Sailfish and the community thrive :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

some are creating their own SFOS app for their GPS watch…

My first phone was a cheap Sagem in 2002, and a year later I plunged myself into the Nokia world, having one avantgarde non-conformist mobile phone after another (3650, 6233, 6280, 6630, 7650, N80, N95, N97, 3x N9). With the M$-induced downfall of Nokia I switched to Jolla (3x JP-1301 with all kinds of TOH) and also abandoned M$ Windows outside of isolated testing VM/containers in all of my private setups, switching to and all-Linux environment.
When the Sony Xperia XA2 became available for SFOS I went for that, using it until the JP-2601 Batch#1 came by mail. Every phone mentioned was used as a full daily driver, some until their end of life, often as secondary phone later for media stuff (I strongly dislike streaming and digitalize all of the CDs I buy, carrying all of ny music with me at any time given). Looks like I will buy multiple JP-2601 again to be able to simulate multiple test cases that might brick phones.
Keep it up, Jolla!

Since April 2025 only device, still have picture at first startup  Coming over from Android, wanting European alternative and still convinced. Without Android support it would be difficult, but trying as much as possible native apps and member of Belgian community to discuss solitions for local apps.

Gradually I’m replacing android apps, be it native ports or equivalents - These sort of things i’ll probably be lumped with for quite a while / indefinitely…

But i remain hopeful one day i can completely de-android lol

@MoralCoral or @sharks or @mkz sorry to ask but: What are these nice little launchers on your homescreen. Never have seen them before.

Started using SFOS with the JP2 in August and it immediately became my daily driver. Even before I received it, I made the decision not to install WhatsApp and Banking Apps. Those live on an old android phone at home (Banking Apps for security reasons and WhatsApp for peace of mind). As such, I really only have 2 AAS Apps installed that I need super infrequently: The GPS tracking app for my dog and Signal (Whisperfish is missing some features).

So far, I also don’t really run any patches - although I am eyeing the one that aligns the home-screen items to the bottom.
