Honestly, I still find the support and progress very disappointing here and it doesn’t matter for me whose fault it is. I’m confident that there could be made more pressure on Sony f.e. over the official github repos from them for the blobs - which obviously is not done by Jolla, since there are no entries. Usually the big companies care some about such kind of (bad) reputation in public places like github.
Or just the other idea to make it an officially supported community port which doesn’t seem to make any progress either.
That being said, I ordered myself a new Jolla Phone, because I’m absolutely sure that this approach is the way to go for them and for us to be independent from such big companies and their good will. Perhaps (let) building is even more cost effective and reliable than seeking other devices from other big companies and have to rely on these then again.
So all my hope goes in the new Jolla phone now (although I still hope to get a working camera some day).
IIRC this is only half true. 5.2 is planned to launch with the new Jolla phone, but for other phones it will launch later. I wouldn’t count on using the updated browser on other phones than the Jolla phone before September
But my memory about SFOS does seem to be unreliable lately, so this may be worth double checking.
This is indeed the case. 5.2 will land on other phones on later date. We probably won’t see other 5.1 version release before that, this is just personal guess tho
Bought my 10 V in Nov 2025, the decision was made because the device was listed in Sailfish OS Doc / Supported devices. Since it was in there for quite some time (and still is), I did not dig into the matter much before the purchase.
Now time has passed, the phone is still not usable as a daily driver and I don’t care who’s fault this is. As soon as my current 10 III breaks and bugs with 10V still unsolved, I’m done with Jolla.
September which year?
It’s like full commercial support for the 10 IV & V originally announced for ‘August’, they didn’t specify which year though. It then turned out that they didn’t mean August 2024 or 2025, and it looks that it’s not going to be August 2026, either So don’t hold your breath, they called all the Xperias ‘legacy devices’ not without a reason
September is just my lower bound expectation for the 5.2 release on other devices, based on vague memories and gut feeling. Could be later of course, or earlier if I’m wrong.
I do not believe Jolla will drop the legacy devices. Their track record is very good on this.
I do not have hope the IV and V will become fully functional with SFOS on it, but software updates I do believe will come.
Since you already ruined your camera (as far as I know, once you unlock the bootloader the camera will never be as good as it was originally with Sony’s Android rom even if you go back to Sony’s Android), maybe you could try /e/os.
There is a community port for the Xperia 10 V.
No longer true. For quite some time all functionality gets restored when you reflash the stock ROM and relock bootloader, including all DRM keys. Tested on eg. my 1 IV.
How exactly did you test?
For example, when I unlocked the bootloader on my Xperia 10 V, Sony’s tools told me the keys would be lost forever.
How did you come to the opposite conclusion?
It is a common knowledge that all newer models restore full functionality and all DRM keys upon flashing back to stock ROM and relocking the bootloader. Check e.g. multiple reports on XDA forums. And so did my 1 IV when I flahed it back to stock, just to test it. All advanced camera and video features were there.
