If I agree with your opinion that wireless charging is useless, pointless or anything else because you never used it, is this shitshow going to end here?
Because I am not asking for opinions about something that I use daily from people that don’t use or never used, and getting emails + notifications from this topic with walls of text I’m not going to read is kinda annoying.

You can engineer around shortcomings of specific flaws in implementations, but what you just can’t engineer around are the laws of physics. That’s where the issues lie. If I had to explain this thru an example it’ll be space launch.

Yes, there’s been some very big advances in technology since the “space race” between the U.S and the Soviet Union. However the laws of physics still dictate that to get something into orbit or into outer space you need an absolutely enormous and monstrously expensive rocket. The so-called escape velocity is still 11.2 km/s or 40320 km/h. No amount of re-usable boosters, starships or mindless Elon Musk fanboys are going to change that. It’ll forever be dangerous and expensive.

The same way electromagnetic induction is and always will be a poor way to transfer electrical energy and a practical solution only in niche applications. It may be more efficient than an old fashion resistive heating stove, which is why my stove is an induction stove, but for charging a phone or anything else with a battery its totally wasteful. Its a step backwards. Plain and simple. Physics will forever hold it back just like physics has kept rockets enormous and so expensive that only nation states and the most wealthy individuals in the world can afford to build them.

Your scientific literacy is so limited that you just don’t seem to be able to comprehend that there is no actual path to an acceptable level of efficiency. The laws of physics stand in the way of that and those laws are immutable. Only way around it is to just accept those laws are there and thus it will always be wasteful. Just like the internal combustion engine. We’ve developed those for centuries now and yet they’re still only about 15% efficient in real world stop-start traffic.

Because not only have I owned devices with wireless charging features starting with the Lumia 920 as I mentioned already, I’ve used it, like I already told you, both away and at home. However when I looked into it I realized that its totally wasteful and because of the laws of physics that won’t ever be solved. Hence the QI pad I’d top up the charge on my then Nexus 5 has been collecting dust in a box in the attic ever since. The OnePlus 9 I’ve got as a holdover originally until Jolla gets the Xperia 10 V binaries sorted out, now until I get my 1st batch Jolla 2, has never seen a wireless charging pad except the one time I showed someone how it works at a Hesburger.

Seriously, you really need to put in more effort into those straw men. I literally contradicted what you tried to say about me in the post you replied to.

Again, you did not address the practical side, and you ended your sentence by saying “it is a waste,” my friend. You had already mentioned your engineering knowledge and the laws of physics before, and I had also said that you could be right regarding that. I do not like you dismissing that.

That is why I do not choose to agree with you on that side. Big companies are not advancing this for nothing. Of course there is a limit; if there were no such thing, we would be able to realize even the ridiculous dreams that come to our minds. But in the topic we are talking about, the dreams we are thinking about — at least wireless charging becoming better and stronger — do not, in my opinion, amount to a flawed assumption.

This is not a back-and-forth fight. In an argument, there is actually no one who is truly right, because no one has looked at it from that person’s point of view.

On topic; Oh I absolutely did address the practical side of things. The practical side of things is the whole point. Its a wasteful technology when you’re throwing out 30 to 50% of the energy you put in. All because you think it looks cool.

As for the link you posted, you do realize that’s the trade association of the companies selling this stuff? They’re about as biased as you can get on the subject. They’re big companies who want to sell you products and make money for their shareholders. Making money for their owners is their purpose in life and if they do so by selling bad products that’s besides the point. As long as the products aren’t hazardous to people’s health or otherwise illegal that’s all that matters to them.

Simply put; The only reason why these companies are advancing it is for the same reason they do everything they do. They think there’s money to be made by selling wasteful products to people who don’t care about waste, the environment or just can’t be bothered to find out if they’re wasting valuable resources. People like you.

As for Nicola Tesla, he was a scientist and they work in the realm of what’s theoretically possible, not what’s practical in the real world. He had his Wardenclyffe Tower facility built to compete with Guglielmo Marconi’s wireless telegraph and the new transatlantic telegraph network. He based it on theories we now know to be nonsense, he for example didn’t believe the then newly discovered radio waves were real, it never really worked. Not for phone service, sending pictures nor for the wireless power transmission he added in as an afterthought. He had a nervous breakdown in 1906 and after that not much was ever done there and it was essentially abandoned in 1911.
