Hello, i noticed the vpn i use doesn’t work anymore in android appsupport
I use waterfox as a browser (with aas) and noticed some sites display ads or are geoblocked, while they shouldn’t as everything is working fine on the default sailfish browser
Any suggestion?
For the record i am using Windscribe as vpn, configured with openvpn, althought i tried with surfshark and i have the same result
What does your VPN provider say when you visit their site with Waterfox? For example, with Mullvad, there is a banner on their website that shows you if you are connected to them or not
I agree with @NIS, do something more reliable to test.
Seems like windscribe doesn’t have anything like this, but it blocks other vpns too, so their site does not load when windscribe is active, this on sailfish (and everywhere else windscribe is working), because on aas it correctly loads mullvad site
Yesterday anyway someone on the telegram group suggested me to try the “do i leak” service, to test my vpn
With the sailfish browser everything is fine, with aas (tried with waterfox and opera) browser is always leaking my ip, so there must be something wrong…
I’m on Mullvad VPN with Wireguard. I just tested this myself, both in the Sailfish Browser and in Fennec on AAS, Mullvad shows as “Mullvad is being used”. However, on AAS, it also says it leaks. Unfortunately, I cannot test if this is also true for Sailfish because in the Sailfish Browser, the leaktest fails.
If you could post a link to the leak detection service you used, I can test your issue with my VPN

Okay so I tested this on my device with MullvadVPN configured as WireGuard.
Inside Android, I get DNS Leaks. On normal SailfishOS, I can unfortunately not report because the leak test never finishes in the Sailfish Browser
I have Proton VPN with Wireguard and tested on DNS Leak Test - BrowserLeaks. On Sailfish no leaks, but on aas it leaks. Browsers I used to test were the stock Sailfish browser and on aas I used Firefox.

I tried your service (which actually works on the Sailfish Browser for me) and indeed, with the Sailfish Browser I see for both my IP address and the DNS server the infrastructure of my VPN provider. However on Android, these differ and for DNS I see the infrastructure of my ISP (at least with mobile data, haven’t tested with W-Lan).
So this clearly seems like an AAS bug, so @247 you should maybe open a bug report for that.

and Fennec. It works as expected. Mobile data gives a completely different IP and location than VPN to my home network.
Yes, this works. The problem are DNS leaks. This means that while you are connected to your VPN (therefore you see the different IP address), your DNS requests still go to the normal DNS server and not to the one from the VPN
Ah. DNS leaks. I cannot exactly check this, because mobile and local net are both vodafone. You are right I did not understand your problem.
