It could be worth a try to install the package. Of course you need to trust that I don’t do anything malicious (as with any package that you install), but I don’t think there are any special security implications. The service doesn’t run with any special permissions for example.
The bash script that you posted has incorrect formatting, but maybe it was formatted correctly when you ran it? Note that the .rc file is indentation-sensitive for example.
