Tailscale & Pi-hole issues on JP2026

I have Pi-hole running at my home mainly for phone adblocking and I’ve been accessing the service via Tailscale.

Im using the native Tailscale client from openrepos and the issue I’m running into with JP2026 is:

With mobile data on and using the native browser, ads are being blocked and I can access the Pi-hole dashboard. When I’m using Android apps, the adblocking doesn’t work and I can’t access the Pi-hole dashboard with any Android browser.

With WLAN on and connected to any WLAN, adblocking and Pi-hole dashboard works fine with both native and Android apps.

I’m running out of ideas and knowledge, any help would be appreciated!

@Maksettu food for thought… I should share this recent post related to blocking IP’s…

Absolutely without any knowledge here:

But there is a new setting under aas called ‘treat mobile data as wlan’.

Maybe check that, restart aas and try again?

On or off, no change at all, same behaviour.

Hello

Maybe it is linked to the DNS bug in AppSupport which does not use vpn dns leading to a DNS leak.

I ditched the Tailscale setup and decided to go with Defender (as I found out about it in august). I had the same issues with it, but SFOS 5.2.0.18 update changed something and the adblocking started working normally. I guess the Tailscale setup would work now too, but haven’t tested it.

Very good decision

What kind of problems you had? I would like to know as there should not be any!

The SFOS version is not causing any.

small remark:

@ptu found one ossue with '“Cookies locking” just lately

There is a newer release (v0.9.9) waiting on chum:testing for this fix. Which will then be “pushed to production”.

I guess the issues were ipv6 related, the adblocking did work on wlan, but not on mobile data. IIRC I did post something to your Defender topic back in august about it. Magically it started working after SFOS update.
