SubMusic (the app)

Thanks, very cool!

Just a small niggle: the canonical (freedesktop XDG spec) location for app data would be under ~/.local/share/Submusic.

@maighstir @ljo
Hi. I found some time to push few changes to this app. I believe that saving streams, instead of downloading songs is working. I couldn’t find anything about bandcamp supporting downloading songs via subsonic, so this has to suffice. I also made sure to push a option to switch between search2 and search3 in settings. As far as I am aware, bandicamp only supports search3 ( which was used by caching anyway ). If automatic downloading songs via steam is enabled, “download song” on the songs lists should also use stream downloading.

  • if you feel like testing other things, at the bottom of settings, there is a switch to toggle “advanced ui” ( had no better name for it :v ). It will switch the home page and display ui for genres, artists, playlists and albums. Would love to get some feedback, since I do not use any of these.

Release is temporarily done on git. Its version 0.13.0. I’ll deploy it to open repos as soon as I get any feedback from you :slight_smile: Making sure you're not a bot!

Oh, and downloaded songs are saved to ~/Music

Cache updates on startup and “Save song from stream” works nicely.

And the song files are stored in the new location “~/Music/Submusic”

Thanks <3 . I’ll push it to openrepos at the morning.

I’ve tried using this app and overall it works well, the only thing I’ve noticed is that albums seem to list their songs in some random order. All of my music is tagged with the correct track and disc numbers, and Symfonium for example displays them correctly. Is there any way to order the songs?

I’ll add this to my “to do”. Currently there is no way to sort anything.

Very nice app! The UI needs some polishing, but all the fundamental features are solid.

Connection to the NextCloud Music app works very well ~ keep up the good work!

Thanks <3 . I always struggled with ui things ( but somehow ended up working as a fullstack developer, writing websites :v ). Nextcloud was done fully by @pavelse. All props should go to him

Hello! Thanks for creating this app.

The way I use music players (and specifically Navidrome clients) is always around albums, not individual songs, so I am missing a couple of pages that work around that idea.

Would it be possible to see the favorite albums in the home screen? Or to have a separated page for favorite albums, ideally as a grid view. Similarly, a recently added albums page as well would be great.

Maybe this could be solved with a unique “albums” page that allows to select all/favorite and different sorting options like recently added, alphabetical, number of plays…

Then, a way to just play an album from start to end. That would work similarly to the Sailfish OS Media app album view.

I hope you don’t mind the suggestions!

Hi. Thanks for suggestion. Any suggestions and ideas are helpfull :wink: .

I have my own server at home ( 3 to be more precise ). I am mid migration from kubernetes to standalone vms under proxmox to have better automation and less resource usage. I should finish it tomorrow / friday ?.
My goal for next few updates is:

  • Finish rewriting amber plugin that I used for mpris, to something that will let me push my app to harbour store ( jolla store ). I would love to have my app also available for people, that do not use open repos.
  • Finish setting up weblate and ask community to help me translate the app. I have it running already, but I need to fix a few quirks.
  • Fix few small issues. For example, sometimes media player can stop buffering a song randomly and not start it. Its rare, but can happen.
  • Then I can start doing other ideas.

Sadly my sony 10 2 wanted me to go to sleep so bad, it made me a spicy pillow. I rudely refused to sleep on it and utilized that phone. I’ll only test this app on fairphone 5 running sfos 5.1.0.11, so if any1 will tests my app on sfos pre 5.1, additional feedback will be appreciated.

I’ve started weblate server alongside my email server. If any1 would like to help, feel free to translate this app here: Making sure you're not a bot!

Its my first time ever running self hosted email server, so if registration email won’t come, please ping me here.

Currently there are only 2 components to translate, but I’ll be adding more in the future :slight_smile:

Edit: I think I pushed all ui texts.

Hi @Ghoelian
I just pushed a update to openrepos, which should sort songs in album via TrackID ( if exists ) or CDID ( If not ) with fallback to default sorting as subsonic returns them. Do you mind testing, if those are sorter properly now ? I only download music from youtube so I have not much to test.

If this will still be broken for you, will you mind sending me either “key” that is used for sorting songs in your library, or if you don’t know, full metadata of 3 songs in a row, that are displayed in your album ?

@VelvetPunch
Just a quick question about your message.

Or to have a separated page for favorite albums, ideally as a grid view

You can search for starred albums using top bar menu. I don’t think that subsonic supports anything other than 5 starts system and “starred” system. Are you talking about something else, or are you asking for a standalone menu of “starred albums” ?

About “Recently added”. I can see that subsonic supports “recently added” albums and probably songs, but nothing about “recently played” songs. Should be quite easy to add it. I’ll try to prepare it for the next release.

Just quickly tested with a few albums, and it seems to work correctly. Thanks for the fix!

Mhhh, no, sorry I didn’t mean rated albums, but favorited.

I’ll show some examples from the client and server I use:

On Navidrome, the Subsonic server I use, I can see the following pages:

I can see Favorite albums, top rated, recently added and recently played.

My Subsonic client for desktop, Supersonic, also has a favorite albums view

To view recently added, Supersonic also offers that view by viewing the list of albums and sorting by Recently Added. There’s also other sorting options like recently played or frequently played.

If it helps, the project source code of Supersonic: GitHub - supersonic-app/supersonic: A lightweight and full-featured cross-platform desktop client for self-hosted music servers · GitHub and Navidrome: GitHub - navidrome/navidrome: 🎧 Your Personal Streaming Service · GitHub

Many thanks!

Well. I was sure that the my app has filters for starred albms, but it only lists albums, which include any starred songs. I’ll rewrite this to actually filter for starred albums.

Will putting:

  • Recently added
  • Starred
    in top bar in albums be enough ? Flow would be:
  • Open app
  • Press “albums”
  • Get top bar option for “recently added”

Or would you rather prefer this app to auto open “Recently added” by default ? I can push settings option, which will allow you to select, what menu should open after logging in, eg: Recently added albums

what menu should open after logging in, eg: Recently added albums

Recently added albums seems logic to me. Favorite albums would also work (but for some people that would be empty if they never marked anything as favorite).

An option to select between Songs and Albums for the Home Page in the settings, or pull-down-menu like you propose, would work.

Like mentioned I personally prefer to see music organized around albums instead of songs, but I understand not everyone prefers that. Defaulting to Songs might make more sense for the average user.

Anyone using this app to stream from Bandcamp? I’m seemingly able to log in, at least there is no error and the Account UI gives me the option to log out. However trying to search for anything just results in a “no response from server”. Works fine using Feishin on desktop. And yes, I made sure it’s set to /search3.

Hi. I don’t use bandcamp at all and mostly relay on what other people report. Mind sending me your logs ?
Kill your app and run it from the terminal via:
```
harbour-submusic --debug > ~/Downloads/submusic.log
```
Please be aware that those logs WILL include your hashed password. You can find all lines which include “v=1.16.1“ and remove everything after that. You can send that file either via private message or here, if you don’t mind making it public.

submusic.log.targz (2.0 KB)

Here you go, had to compress it since the forum didn’t allow uploading text files.

This is me adding the server (copypasted all the login info, to avoid typos), trying to search a few times and toggling caching off and on.

Well. Bandcamp is responding on every req with 500 error… Mind installing version 0.13.0 or 0.13.-2 for testing ? You can find it on openrepos SubMusic | OpenRepos.net — Community Repository System or on my git server releases ( link at the top )

@ljo Hope you don’t mind me pinging you. You’ve been using only bandcamp. Are you also having issues ?

I’ll search for my bandcamp auth. I removed it long time ago

Edit: I would wait until tomorrow. If any1 else reports that bandcamp is not working, its on their site. I can ping their server and subsonic api, but any req returns 500.
