State of non-SFOS/Android GUI applications

After digging around, I found two solutions for running GUI applications: custom Flatpak that appears to have extensive integration with SFOS, and Containers that requires using a desktop environment, which is highly impractical on a phone.

Before I try installing either of these, I wanted to know if there are caveats with the Flatpak approach (other than only using Flatpak packages) and whether there are desktop environments that work better for small touchscreens for the Containers approach (Phosh…?). In general, I’m interested in the current status of what works.

Also, do other methods exist, and does any method support graphics acceleration nowadays?

For something I’d imagine many users to be interested in, I find that the information is scattered and not as straightforward as it could be, so I thought I’d post a new thread. After running across a few relevant threads, I’m left with more questions than answers.

dont think flatpak works (last commit 6-7 years ago).

What I linked is the documentation repo, the organisation (i.e. the related repos) have more recent commits. 3 or so years is a little while ago, but that doesn’t necessarily have to mean it’s broken…?

My understanding from reading this forum is that flatpaks don’t work currently, but I have researched that topic
