Sony Xperia XA2 getting very hot

Since a few days my Xperia XA2 running SFOS 5 is getting very hot when Internet connection is enabled, even if no apps are running. Have tried rebooting several times with no change. top in terminal shows no particularly busy tasks, but load average is >7. No new apps installed, no system updates performed. It’s a mystery and very annoying since it renders the phone pretty much unusable. Any ideas?

And if I had to give up and retire it, which is the smallest phone on the market that is officially supported by SFOS?

Iirc, the smallest official is the XA2.
But I believe the unofficial XZ2 is smaller.

Can your problem perhaps be related to an antenna short-circuit, or other hw issue?

Before to change phone, perhaps try a reflash? (after a backup)

There is an app called Battery Buddy, that gives information about the battery status. Perhaps that can give you a clue about what is happening. You will find the app on Storeman.

Thanks guys, antenna issues sound likely, since I’m also having trouble connecting and staying connected to the mobile operator. The phone often disconnects the first time I try to load a webpage after turning Internet on. I think the phone is used up. I bought it second-hand 6 years ago and it’s now pretty battered and bruised. It’s on its second USB connector PCB, the back is no longer attached and the battery is starting to puff up a bit. The insides are full of dust and fluff. It has earned a restful retirement. Besides, it’s probably time to get on the 5G bandwagon.

Much as I love the look of the new Jolla phone, it’s not available to buy today, so that’s unfortunately not an option. It’s also massively huge for someone who likes to carry their phone around in a pocket (crazy idea, I know - you are of course supposed to carry it in front of your face wherever you go, but I keep bumping into things when I do that). So I don’t know what to do.

I have just ordered a second-hand Xperia 10 IV.

Those are not ready for daily use.

What? I thought Jolla were selling an official SailfishOS version for the Xperia 10 IV?

They most definitely are not selling licenses for that one, nor the V.

They don’t seem to be selling any official downloads at all any more: https://shop.jolla.com

Bottom left?!

Not that the contents of the downloads differ ion any way shape or form - but you do get access to the extras in Store.

I don’t understand. I bought a license for my XA2.

The bottom left option is the paid license.
Note the total absence of IV and V there.

And downloads does not differ from the free ones - access to content does.
What’s unclear about that?

I note the total absence of any models.

Then you are not even trying.

Or try to fix it?

See " Support & get a license", under “More info”

The support of SFOS for Xperia 10 IV is in beta. The camera doesn’t work yet.

The X 10 IV/V are not recommended. X 10 II/III are.

I seem to remember it’s possible to fix the hardware issue, if that’s what it is.

You should try top with elevated privileges, or install Crest, or install htop and use that (with elevated privileges).

Yes. I clearly made a mistake there. Seems I had a false memory of the IV being supported. Thankfully I can return it for a refund and only lose the postage. The question is, should I? It’s a nice enough phone, but how long will I have to wait before the camera support lands?

Ok, I’ve spent a lot of time reading various threads on here and it seems the answer is that it’s very unlikely that the Xperia 10 IV will ever be supported by Sailfish  Returning it, and will try to find a 10 III instead.
