[SOLD] Jolla Phone 2026 Batch #1

Ahoy sailors,

I’d like to sell my Jolla Phone 2026 from batch #1. It comes with the orange back cover, has an extra white back cover, a privacy screen protector (not yet applied), and a black protective case.

The phone is more or less unused. Only tested it while sitting on the couch and never carried it around outside of the house.

Returning it to Jolla doesn’t make a lot of sense to me as they will sell it on to another customer at a premium. I want to sell it for exactly the price I paid. 607,90 € including all accessories. Postage will be added on top depending on your location. I’m in Germany.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Best wishes

Edit 1: The phone is a 12/256 GB model, just as any other batch #1 phone. As per the paper sheet in the box, the Inari Blue other half will be delivered later. I can post it to you once I’ve received it.

I assume by the price this is the 12/256GB Version?

May I ask why you are selling? Just curious.

I think all of the batch 1/2/3 phones are 12/256gb versions

You are right. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sure. I’m one of “the first ones” from back in 2013 and had high hopes for the new Jolla phone. After receiving it and testing it, I’ve come to the conclusion that this kind of quirky operating system just isn’t for me anymore.

I don’t have time to spare to set up multiple storefronts and repos, fight with basic websites not working in the browser or deal with a crashing and laggy browser in general.

I need a camera tht just works and doesn’t produce noisy photos with bad colours that look like 2010 and that have 1-2 seconds to even be taken. I’m really not willing to miss a good snapshot of my toddler because my Jolla phone needs two extra seconds to take a photo that will look mediocre at the very best.

And while that may be bearable (maybe? somehow?), the selfie camera is laughably bad. I need to be able to participate in video calls with the other side not being worried why my face looks like a tomato.

I want to actually manage app permissions instead of just being able to accept/refuse a long list of permissions per app.

I need WiFi signal that’s stronger than one bar where my four year old Sony 1 IV (with a chip that’s known for mediocre reception quality) has full four bars.

The built-in speakers, while rarely used in my case, sound tinny and frankly just bad.

All of these things aren’t total dealbreakers by themselves but taken together, I now realised that I just had different (too high?) expectations of the Jolla / SFOS experience and its ecosystem after having left it some 6-7 years ago. I used SFOS on the original Jolla phone for many years and later on a XA2. Completely daily drivable back then. I even backed their tablet campaign back in the day because the tablet space really needs a good Linux alternative.

I now wanted to give it another try with their own hardware but was seriously disappointed, so that’s why I’m selling it again. I’m sure it works 100% for other user groups but I’m not in that user group anymore. Hope this explains my reasoning behind the decision to sell. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

The selfie camera and the camera app itself output sRGB and the panel is P3, so don’t worry, you didn’t look like a tomato to others. It’s just pushing reds too wide.

The real boost in fixing and development is happening now because they’re being forced to do so while purchasing more units than initially planned. JP2026 is in a much better release state than C2 was, so there’s no doubt that it will improve. But, of course, I respect and understand OP’s view.

While that may be an explanation (that I certainly don’t understand from a technical side without researching what P3 means), it’s nothing I want to care about when using a communication device tbqh.

C2 seems to have been a desaster and I’m certainly happy I stayed clear of it.

About the time lag in development: I guess what you say could be true but I’ve been aboard this ship (SFOS/Jolla) for a long time and don’t want to wait any longer because of promises of future improvements. I need my smartphone and its functionalities a lot throughout the day and while I can certainly do without high-end gaming, banking apps and doomscrolling short-form videos, I cannot do without a fully-fledged browser, autofill with my KeePass database, a decent main camera, and so on.

I just don’t have the time to wait for a shiny SFOS future because I need to work and communicate with my phone every day. (And don’t have the spare change to keep a 600€ phone in my drawer until it maybe eventually meets the promises/expectations.)

I can’t agree with this because I’ve used it as my daily driver for 1.5 years without any major problems, and I keep it as a backup for myself or my family. I would still be using it if I hadn’t bought the JP2026. Naturally, though, you can read a lot of negative things on this forum because happy users don’t need to post about it.

I see @laubblaeser point. Sometimes you just want something that consistently works, with the fewest compromises.

For as much as Sailfish has progressed it’s undeniable there are still compromises one has to deal with. We all have different needs: some of us are in a position to accept the compromises, some of us are not. That’s life.

At home I have two EndeavourOS boxes and now a Jolla. I love them and enjoy thinkering with them.
At work, an iphone and a mac. I love them too, for other reasons.

At home I can accept making my boxes unbootable and spend (unpaid) time fixing them, or having them 95% there. At work, I want my stuff to be frictionless and be 99% there. They are tools. I cannot and do not want to waste time fiddling with them.

@laubblaeser wants a frictionless, always dependable device and I totally see why.
Farewell and you know we’ll still be here to welcome you in case you ever come back
Maybe check from time to time, the camera lag and quality will be fixed  (they better be!!!)

(my input brings very little value to this conversation, take it as an unsolicited opinion  )

I’m sorry for making that point then and causing you further annoyance.

I’m interested but live in Canada. Can do a PayPal transaction…

These seem like reasonable complaints if you’re expecting to use it as a daily primary device.

Sadly, SFOS development stagnated over the past 5 years, but Jolla is now working on clearing out that technical debt. Now that they are independent and making their own phones, they should have a much easier time doing so.

Most of the mentioned issues should be fixable… how well is a whole other question.

The native camera app hasn’t been touched in over a decade and is still using Camera API v1. The same goes for the browser; it hadn’t been updated in ages, though it was finally bumped to Gecko v115 and is now getting version 153 (and extension support is being tested).

As for connection strength, that can be improved, though I’ve read that some Android devices (and maybe iOS too) do a bit of “faking” to show a stronger signal than what’s actually there.

I think the speakers are fine for the price range, but the sound profile needs some tweaking.

Lastly, the permissions system is just one item on a long list of improvements Jolla needs to make, though it’s probably not their highest priority right now.

Anyway, I understand that some people don’t have time to wait for the OS to become usable for their needs, at least if they expect to use it as their primary device. Maybe next time.

I’ve shipped musical instruments to North and Central America in the past and they’ve arrived just fine. It wouldn’t be an issue for me to send the device to Canada, however the postage will likely cost a bit. If you’re really interested, please send me a DM and I will check the rates.

Really nobody interested in buying the phone from me? Bumping this to make sure it gets some attention again.

Maybe try some local online flea market or auction house?

i feel like someone will definitely want it. even i aaaalmost want it, to have a spare in case i break my jp2. it scares me knowing that i have no way to replace my phone in any known amount of time if it breaks or is stolen, but i am sadly not currently fabulously wealthy and cannot buy a phone i wont use just for peace of mind
godspeed!

If i was you I’d advertise this at a different spot mainly. Like on reddit in privacy subs, buy from europe sub, and similar. People were pretty interested about this phone over there.

People who are on this forum are here probably because they already have the phone or have it reordered in my opinion. Might have more luck elsewhere.
