One more issue:
When trying to set up the Proton Mail bridge (from Harbour) I get a missing dependency for glibc 2.32:
When looking closer with zypper I can see that only 2.30 is provided:
Are there any known workarounds for this? Would it be to try and compile everything locally with 2.30 and hope for the best or anything more “sensible”?

Probably the easiest way is to update the device to Sailfish OS 5.1.0.11.
Would this require switching to an experimental/testing branch? In the updater in settings it says that I am up to date on Tampella 5.0.0.72. This is for fp4
No need to change repos or anything, just follow the usual update instructions as mentioned in first message in the thread but use version 5.1.0.11 in the “ssu re” command. That is possible for FP4 and FP5, not yet for FP2 in case someone else thinks about updating.

Small note for other readers: I recommend doing this over ssh instead of on the phone. To me, the terminal app crashed mid update and I ended up having to do a clean install

Ouch. Happened to me also btw. But ssh was still working so I just finished the update that way. But yes, better to do it over ssh at first place.

I’m running into one final issue which I need fixed for Sailfish to reach daily drive-ability.
Does anyone know how to get wifi hotspot working properly? I’m able to use mobile data just fine on my phone, and connect other devices just fine to the hotspot - but they don’t get any internet connection, just the LAN. This is sadly a 100% necessary feature as I have to carry a second device with uber and other public transport apps to travel safely in the night here in Brazil and waydroid seems to be broken on FP
Unsure where to start with trying to fix this as I’ve never used mobile linux ‘seriously’ before

Which device has wifi hotspot issue? I’ll test both FP4 and FP5 to see how that behaves.
I think @runarcn was on FP4, but I tried the hotspot aswell on FP5, and couln’t get internet connection.
@prkl is correct, this in on FP4. The provider is VIVO if that’s relevant, can provide logs if someone knows where to get them:)

This is not the issue with the hotspot. Fairphone 5 in my case does not have any dns set, thus connected devices get no internet. I did not want to destroy something, so non-invasive way to fix it is to set dns on the client. On android sadly, it requires you to manually set ip address. On linux, you can simply set dns.
I would like to report, that on 5.1.0.11, sometimes touchscreen dies after reboot. Additional reboot makes it work. There are also issues with bluetooth. I can turn it on, connect a device and when I am done, disable it. Sadly after few hours, when I leave my work and want to listen to the music, its stuck in “turning on” mode. Only way to get it “unstuck” is to reboot the device, or “reset” it using “reset bluetooth” in settings => tools option, before turning it on.
I swapped my sim card again to FP5 to see what is happening with DNS on hotspot clients, but today everything work just fine… JP and Android got DNS 172.28.172.1 which is IPv4 gateway and I can access the internet.
Works on FP4 - funnily enough, all I had to do was click the toggle on my A17, didn’t have to change anything in the text fields

Yes, should be fine to flash on top of newer android versions also.
