In the past I have sent some requests to few companies that they could consider of making a Sailfish OS version of their app, atleast parking app Parkman and Digia in Finland I’ve requested.
They both replied, but as one can guess the reply was like “not enough users”.
One email will most likely never make a difference. But if we make a bigger letter with many signatures under?
I’m thinking of a short letter but still with relevant info for the receiver;
A short introduction of the OS and a link to more info.
Reasons why a native app is needed.
Link to SDK or some developing pages?
Something else?
HUUUUGE list of names that we can collect (also outside the forums, I atleast know quite a few people not with SFOS but will see a change and would definitely sign under).
Are there people who would want to team up with me in Finland and make a small effort to send few letters to well chosen organizations?
Of course international organization could come to a question.
There might be a snow ball’s chance in hell that somebody somewhere would actually take a note of a crowd voicing their interest.
Very nice initiative! I don’t know what kind of plan did you have, but if you make email and find email address to send it, I for sure can send the same email! Or how did you plan to collect the signatures?

The general idea was like this:
I (or if somebody is willing to help) would write an email in very polite form that would let an app owner see that there actually exists people with SFOS. I would assume that currently we are invisible in large.
Anyhow…
Then gather names of people to back the words of the email.
Then send it as one email with all the names.
I don’t know if this is of any idea… but some app owner might reconsider their view on app landscape.
And then again some instances that might find themselves obligated to develop a native app - I’m thinking for example the Emergency app of Finland 112 (that did have a native app back then long ago).
Or maybe we are so anxious about our privacy here on this forum that we don’t want to expose our real names?

I (or somebody with me) would be doing the “hard work” and making the email and finding right place to send it to. Then “the people” would only need to give their name if they agree on the letter.
Although… I do not fully agree on your point. Actually people are going in great lengths if they have an idea or they feel that they are part of a team or community. One example would be “a random forum member” Mr Magister who has gone great lengths developing very nice and robust apps - I imagine nobody has had a gun behind your head to develop those apps…
I for sure can participate to that email. I was just wondering if it has enough creditability if there is only list of names in the email. Because, in theory, someone could just add punch of random names there. Would it be more effective to send them multiple emails? At least that way they would know there is truly email address behind the initiative. I don’t know if my concern is in understandable form here… Too early, and no coffee inside the system
I filed a complaint at my bank about the app not working on AppSupport. It did work in the past, but hasn’t been working for more than a year. I shared my experiments with workarounds and what I learned from them about my conclusion of why it didn’t work. My complaint was denied, because it was a policiy decision to only support official android.
So I filed a new complaint about the policy decision. 3 weeks later they updated the app and it worked again.
I didn’t think complaining would do anything. But it did. We never know, maybe a letter would get us 1 or two new apps?

Its not that unreasonable from their point of view. Im not sure how many sailfish users is out there but if it is less than 1% we are in a tough spot. Im afraid it could be way less that 1% though.
Look how Europe is making a big shift today. France i.e. is changing to Linux computers for the whole government if I understood correctly. That decision did come despite the fact that Linux is a marginal fenomen in desktop computers.
This example is another front on the fight - I know - just saying that there are quite a lot of people nowadays that are thinking for the good of Europe - like Jolla is saying about “digital sovereignty” every time the phone represents. It might turn some heads on app front also.

And as I mentioned in the original post that “bombarding” for example Finnish Emergency Response Center would be one possible object. Not all is open market.
You could provide a written letter in post #1 of ths topic for easy copy-pasting.
It’s even possible to automate this somewhat with mailto links. So whoever feels the need can click that link, it opens in the email client of their choice, the body is already written, and all they need to add is a recipient and their signature.
A good first step I’m sure.
Platforms for making proper petitions also exist, but afaics it’s a bit unclear who to petition in the end.
Sure, the numbers are likely to be too small to be of interest, but we need to raise awareness for viable made-in-EU FLOSS alternatives any which way.
