In SFOS we are swiping and do not click on checkboxes ;-).
We should have only one tapping area for “Cancel” the action and let’s swipe to force the action. … as it was before.
This topic is much more specific then mine. Thus it’s bad idea to merge them.
No icon will make it clearer. There is text hint “Tap to undo” so whatever icon you will place here it will be percieved as “Tap this icon to undo”.
People are capable of learning, right?
So put it in the tutorial, add a hint when first time using the remorse and they will be able to use the swipe gesture. It’s not hard, you just have to know it’s there.
Reading the discussion one could get the impression it’s an unreasonable demand or even impossible to change usage habits.
And as sorry as I am for anyone who accidentally deleted stuff (happened to me too, especially after the first change tap cancel -> tap accept): Using the clutch of your car there always is some danger
of hitting 3rd gear instead of 5th at, say 80km/h and
using a knive there’s the danger cutting yourself. But you learned how you’re supposed to use these and would’nt demand to take away the knives edge or remove 3rd gear.
Explain well how remorse is supposed to work and be done with it. anyone having a problem with the usage concept can use a patch (having the X removed my remorses, thanks @kuba and @nephros) or choose another OS
You are right, but…
…car makers do not change the (H) layout of gears just in between!
… knife makers do not switch blade and grip
or, what really matches here
design the knife to look like a grip but being the blade!
I really really do not mind using ( lot of) patches for design decisions I do not like.
But this one is one I will always complain about …
Also the option to close the remorse timer and commit the change immediately feels kind of “secondary” because its just meant to speed things up so there is no harm if someone does not know about how you can swipe the remorse timer away to delete immediately. In fact there was no way to do this for years.
Bu trying to “dumb it down” they generated a lot of inconsistencies into the process.
Exactly!
And you could/can always continue working with this app. The remorse continued and did its job in the background. There was/is no need to wait on it explicitly!
The only thing that stopped/stops the remorse is when you close the app within the timeout, only then deletion was/is not executed. So maybe Jolla can bring this up as emergency stoppage of remorse deletion? (not serious )
Just bring us back the swipe confirm like for all the other up-popping notifications! (this would be consistent)
Yup, I deleted an app and instead of terminating the process the x made the termination final…
Yes, it’s like “reverse intuitive”
I tried reading the whole thread, but couldn’t make it all the way… Dis anybody mention the possibility of something like, “29 Photos Deleted (undo)”, and then you hit undo to bring them back?
No
twenty characters
It’s a common feature in Liux, and others. Seems like wouldn’t be too hard to implement…
Thanks for all the feedback. We are now removing the close popup button from the remorses to avoid risk that people accidentally delete their precious data. Even if you get the meaning of the button (are familiar with e.g. GMail and Outlook desktop undo popups that have similar close button on the right) the four second timer puts you under pressure and in panic you might still tap it accidentally. Gesture use is anyhow something we want to promote in Sailfish OS.
THANK YOU!
Much appreciated.
