[RELEASE] FUTO Keyboard (with Swipe and Offline Voice Input)

I also started to get my number row overlapped with the qwerty row, makes typing the numbers a bit more difficult.
Apart from that everything else got better!

Actually I had this same issue with built-in keyboard and I wrote bug ticket about it.

I cannot reproduce this; I can paste the clipboard content into several apps.

Hi, @HtheB! Thank you for this amazing keyboard app!! I’m trying it but I miss accent key in Spanish keyboard, could you please add it?

Thanks in advanced!

I note the Emoji keyboard isn’t showing me the characters. Just blank boxes. This is both for the built -in and the downloadable. J2 on 5.2.0.17

@HtheB A fix for not showing the emoji is that in the works. It is now guessing which square produces which icon.

The work-around is to not rely on the defaults, but download some new emojis and then select the downloaded ones.

FUTO Keyboard for Sailfish OS 0.4.0

New features

  • Expanded language and layout support with additional FUTO layouts, their proper key order, and language-specific long-press characters.
  • Added predictions and swipe typing for additional languages where an offline dictionary is available.
  • Added native Sailfish font support for scripts such as Amazigh, Sinhala, Myanmar, and Khmer.
  • Improved the Arabic and Persian layouts with appropriate punctuation, numerals, and alternative letters.
  • Added the new Saudi Riyal symbol and improved the rendering of Arabic Rial and Jalla Jalaluhu symbols.
  • Added an optional ā€œAdd space after punctuationā€ setting (this excludes web and email addresses).

Fixes

  • Greatly reduced emoji-picker memory usage and improved scrolling performance, especially in long categories such as flags.
  • Improved emoji search so unrelated results are no longer shown for searches such as ā€œhappyā€.
  • Spacebar cursor control now works smoothly in both native Sailfish and Android applications.
  • The optional number row now matches the letter-row height and no longer overlaps it.
  • Swipe vibration now occurs only on the first touched letter.
  • Swiped words receive a space only after accepting the suggestion or beginning the next swipe.
  • Swipe typing stays disabled until the required FUTO Swipe content has been downloaded.
  • Pressing Space now accepts the visibly highlighted correction instead of an unseen suggestion.
  • System-default keyboard sounds now respect both Sailfish Touch sounds and Silent mode.
  • The current system clipboard entry can be pasted into password fields without enabling clipboard history.
  • Corrected duplicated and misplaced secondary symbols across keyboard layouts.

thanks

I notice that on my C2, I can see FUTO settings from the global settings application under text entry. But it is not visible on Jolla phone 2026. For the latter, I can enter FUTO settings only from the keyboard quick settings.

The issues I had are now fixed, thanks! One minor gripe, sometimes vibration while swiping still triggers during the action, not only at the beginning, but I didn’t identify yet if it is random or triggered by something specific, I’ll get back to it if I discover something.

I noticed another swipe-typing annoyance, though: if I type a single letter after a swiped word, no automatic space is added:

This does not happen if I swipe the word but then pick a suggestion from the list, then the space is added before the single letter.

make sure you are on the latest fw, reboot your phone once. If problem still exists, which language do you use?

I rebooted again but still not visible. I use French as global system language (same as for the C2 for which the FUTO settings are available from the global settings application).

I have just updated FUTO to 0.4 and SFOS version is at 5.2.0.17 (only available for JP2 afaik)

I still don’t have a convenient paste button at the top of the keyboard.

If clipboard history is on, I can hold 123, hit clipboard, and see the contents of the clipboard there. But there’s no easy paste button in the word predictions row like there is on the stock keyboard.

:man_shrugging:t2:

Yeah, mine is still like this.

If there’s any logs I can provide or debugging I can do, please let me know. Else I think I’ll just keep using the stock keyboard.

Is it in every app? Can you try it in Notes?
Which phone and firmware version?

Notice for Swipe users

Sailfish OS Bug

Typing fast with 2 fingers when the letters are close to each other leads to ā€œswipingā€.
The OS thinks that you swipe your finger instead of just touching it with two different fingers.

This has nothing to do with FUTO Keyboard, but the whole OS itself.
If you do that on the stock keyboard while you have more than 1 keyboard enabled, it will swipe away to the next language. If you do that in a paint program, (like Papocchio) you can also see the results. I’ve attached a screenshot of what I mean at the end of this post.

For now, I will release a new update that will let you only swipe if it’s the first letter of the word, if you start typing without swiping, it will not accept swiping until it’s the first letter again (so after a space or a new line).

It’s the best solution that I can think of until this bug has been solved.

(Yes, I filed a bug report)

Yes, every app. I just downloaded the Notes app and can confirm I have a paste button in the stock keyboard but not FUTO there as well.

I am using my Xperia 10 IV community port (SFOS 5.1.0.11)

Ok I have found the issue. You did not have predictions on. The clipboard icon shows on the strip where the predictions are, and since yours is off, it never shows it.
I will release a hotfix for this.

I hope you are right, although I am sure I have tried it with predictions on also.

Looking forward to trying the update…
