not sure if I should open a new bug report.
I got my phone on Monday.
4g volte registration is done, newest SW version (5.2).
Yesterday (Tuesday) I was a the railway station (outside) and I needed to make an emergency call (112). I saw that the connection was established because the time counter began, but I could only hear a very loud “HALLO!?!?!” in between second 10 and 12. Before and After that I could not hear the operator and it he did not hear me as well. I tried a second time, same result.
In slight panic I switched the sim card to my old phone (pixel 7a) which I had with me and it worked.
Until now, I did round about 10 additional calls from various locations, but all with good 5g / 4 reception, sometimes in wlan, too.
Round about 40% of the calls did not work with the same pattern: they did not hear me, I did hear my counterpart from time to time, if at all.
Taking the pixel 7a phone: no issues.
I must say, I really love the phone… but I must be honest: the phone has one job where it needs to perform: making phone calls.
Any advice is welcome, i really want to keep the phone. I can live with all kinds of draw backs, like not working apps, or shitty apps, or what so ever, but it f*ing needs to make phone calls reliably.
It’s a PHONE!!1!
Sorry to hear that voice calls didn’t work for you in a stressful situation!
To provide a constructive answer (looking at you @unmaintained), I have not had that happen to me yet. Same phone, same OS version (I assume you mean 5.2.0.17), same country, also using 4G VoLTE.
Have you been able to rule out other factors? Like trying the SIM in the other SIM slot - or (I know, sorry) factory resetting the device? Worst case it might be an issue with your particular device, but I don’t think this is a systemic issue.
Really sorry to hear. Really awful situation to be in. I’m located in Finland, so not best reference, but there is known bug that 2G calls don’t really work currently. That one I have experienced myself, but in that case counterpart did hear something and I did hear them
That was my experience with Xperia 10 III where the “lost audio” bug hit me many times when trying to make simple phone calls. Never experienced it since I have my JP 2026.
The Xperia 10 III audio bug was that you lost all audio in phone. No audio in music, videos, phone calls etc. Also videos started to play like 1fps. Restarting audio subsystem from utilities worked sometimes and sometimes you needed to restart phone. But I haven’t experienced that with Jolla phone
Soooo, I intalled “CellMon” from storeman.
At home my signal strength is horrible:
(4g only, everywhere, even if I 100% know 5G is available.)
Status RSSI 1%;
Cell RSSI 10% - 16%.
The indicator at the top right corner has one bar. (I guess out of 5.)
I was driving around now in the car and making occasional stops.
The very best I had was
Status RSSI 52%;
Cell RSSI 65%. (3 out of 5 bars in the top right corner indicator).
Ironically this was at the spot where I needed to make the emergency call on Tuesday.
My father came with me and and checked in parallel with his 4G only android phone.
His results are not comparable 1:1, but it was mostly better. At least the singal strength indicator showed often 5 out of 5 bars. The signal strength measuring app was not always making sense.
Until now I never saw my signal strength indicator at the top right corner full, best was 3/5.
