Merge Appsupport(Aliendalvik) into open source Waydroid?

Are there any planns to migrate from proprietary Appsupport(Aliendalvik to open source Waydroid?
I think neither android translation layer support Widevine DRM or Google Play Integrity so it would be nice to have full open source stack to improve community contributions

Personally, I find the android app support (AAS) is better integrated into the operating system than a separate solution like WayDroid. Therefore, I would be willing to pay if AAS were available as a purchasable option for community ports.

In my opinion, both options have their place.

no it’s not, it’s not planned and it won’t ever happen. They even said they’re not gonna do it.

Did they? Do you have any source?

As far as I know there’s no solid plans on Jolla’s part, but they’ve not totally ruled it out. But I wouldn’t hold your breath. AppSupport for the Xperia 1IV and 5IV community ports was queried at the last meeting:

It’s very unlikely that Xperia 1 IV / 5 IV would be the community port to get the AppSupport (and other commercial components). Currently we are very busy with all related to Jolla Phone product program. Further, we give ourselves a bit of Christmas break. Surely, we have been thinking how to expand AppSupport for community ports. More on that later.

They are completely different approaches, it’s like asking Airbus to team up with Alstom to unite their efforts, after all both of them manufacture means of transportation.

This is similar to asking Micro$oft to open-source Windows.

So when you state something you don’t need the source but if I contradict it, suddenly I need to provide source? Sure buster

Not sure in which direction that leads, but some source here.

What would be the business case for Jolla (or Seafarix) that would justify opening up their arguably most valuable asset?

They are actually quite similar. Both run a custom AOSP image inside an LXC container. The differences are mostly about platform integration and implementation details.

It’s very unlikely that Xperia 1 IV / 5 IV would be the first community port to get the AppSupport (and other commercial components).

Missing a word from the quate
