[jp2026] Does the phone come with a screen protector on it?

While working on setting up my new phone and preparing to apply the screen protector I noticed the typical edges of a screen protector and also a tiny “air bubble artefact” at the top left corner.

So before I apply a screen protector to a screen protector, does the phone ship with one applied already?

In the picture you can see there is a ridge around the camera and the air bubble on the left above the screen.

Yes, a very thin one, but it’s a basic form of protection.

Ah so it’s recommended to replace?

As you can read many times here in this forum: yes. You have remove this first before apply the screen protector.

PS.: There is also a search function in the top. Maybe a search is faster than create another topic.

@hanswf My question was indeed already answered, my second question was not as far as I see, maybe I need to rephrase it -

Is there a big difference between the quality of both screen protectors or does it make sense to keep the factory one and use the other as spare?

The screen factory applies a protective film. It’s not intended for long time use. As you can read here in other threads this proctive film blistered. So remove it and apply the real protector.

The factory applied screen protector is cheap but ok. I am using it until it suffered too much. Then I will replace it by the glass screen protector.

Air bubbles

I stlil don’t have a response to my support case about this filed to @Jolla email Jul 21, or 2 mo ago.

Probably shipping me a replacement screen protector product is the simplest solution here, but perhaps decision is also about front camera dust particle issue which my hardware may or may not be subject to full recall anyway.

The Jolla Phone comes with a workshop screen protector intended to protect it from damage during assembly and shipping. Usually, the applicator film for the screen protector is also in place. This is the one with a pull tab.

The workshop protector attracts fingerprints, but you can just keep it, as long as it sticks to the screen. However, it must be removed before installing a proper screen protector.(I.e. remove both the applicator film and the screen protector.)

There are glass protectors available from Jolla Phone screen protector – Jolla Shop which seem to be of good quality. Some forum members have also used third-party protectors.

I don’t think the factory screen protection is available as a separate product. It is disposable, and it has fulfilled its purpose once the phone is in your hands. I think it’s unlikely that Jolla will provide a new one under warranty.

@Jolla, can we please get an official response to this question that keeps coming up? I did not replace it, because I did not see an instruction to do so. Now consens in the forum seems to be that it is recommended to remove the stock protector. If it is the official position, I would like to see a notice in the screen protector packaging or at least in the forums. It’s a confusing and somehow disappointing situation to have no clarity on it.

Nobody’s talking about the pull tab disposable layer, could check details if already taking on a reply job. All of this has already been discussed in linked topic.

After trying the search I found for you:

(Search for: protective @rainemak)

The linked topic makes it clear that you removed the applicator film, but kept the workshop protection. This is a disposable item, not available as a separate product at commerce.jolla.com, neither is it likely to be replaced under warranty.

Here comes pictures of both “protectors”. Upper one, top most, to be removed always. The one without flap, lower one, against glass, can be kept there until installing real (optional) protective glass. I removed both, not installing any other screen protector, using bookcase cover.

Those protectors are mainly for sticky fingers (imho), not against hard landing on gravel. Little bit like using a pillow as an airbag in car

Now that we have resolved this, do we have an official statement from @Jolla which of the two phones inside the box we should try to boot?

The nice light cardboard one or the heavy glass and plastic one?

My cardboard one (orange) didn’t have any screen protector. Also, there seem to be problems with the camera (I can see through the opening very well, but the picture usn’t saved anywhere). Fortunately I do not have dust building up behind the front camera lens. Sound and taste is better than that on my Android work phones.

Back to topic: this thread can be closed, there’s nothing more to be gained here that’s not shitposting.

I’m genuinely flabbergasted how people can’t immediately tell this.

I’m genuinely confused as well.
If any screen protector, film or glass, has a cutout around the camera/speaker it’s literally the first thing I see even from distance and it always annoys me.

I understand that some early foldables made people feel scared when they see one pre applied, but that’s still foldables exclusive issue and long gone as well.

It lasted two full days in my pants…

Well, just wait until I get my Jolla phone, hopefully by November or December. This will be my first ever non-iPhone, so I will be asking endless dumb questions here on this forum.

Brace yourselves :exploding_head: :face_with_peeking_eye: :joy:
