What are the expected shipping times? I received the shipping confirmation email two weeks ago, but there is no sign of any shipment. No tracking info available.
Today I received emails asking to review the products, so I guess even Jolla think it should have arrived by now…
You can check the Community Shipping Tracker for data relevant for your country reported by the community members, or check the median times per country calculated for the first 101 entries of the same data by @moripeluka
Well, let it be enough data points for your batch to give some proper hint on current delivery firstly. It can potentially be an outlier or affected by any of the delivery delaying factors.
Whole argument again is quite ridiculous, but just my 2 cents. Here you very likely intentionally understood wrongly. As they were talking about payment link and even if Polat used “shipped” word probably wrong (english isn’t my first language and I have dyslexia) it is quite hard to think that Polat was talking about physical phones that has been shipped. Whole conversation was around email link, before and after the word “shipped”. Would for sure been more clear if that sentence also included word “link”, but if you read those two posts you had the context. For Finnish as a example the sentence translates perfectly as whole batch (links) have been sent. Don’t know about your language, but from English even it is quite hard to missunderstand by accident.
Of course I believe it is always beneficial to try to improve even the second languages. But you can just ask if you understood the context correctly and give 10sec english grammar class if you think you are capable. Now you just wanted to pick a fight or you used translator which didn’t have the context.
I’m in Batch #3 with PRE-ORDER 11394 and paid the remaining amount on 15th April using the pre-order discount code I received. The final order number with the full price less discount plus accessories was ORDER #20989. There shouldn’t be an email address mixup, however, my order doesn’t show up when checking on https://commerce.jolla.com/ using the email address where I received the invoice. Also, somehow my account didn’t have my address on the record, so I added it.
Is there anything that needs to be done to make my order show up in the Jolla Shop?
Nothing in the order list after login with the email address where I received the final purchase confirmation. That email has my correct address though. It said in the email for order 20989 on 15th April:
“Thank you for your purchase!
We’re getting your order ready to be shipped. We will notify you when it has been sent.”
In that email I have a PDF receipt download link which also shows the correct shipping details.
I never logged into the shop until a few days ago though. I do receive general updates to the email address I used for the purchase, the last one end of August I think.
I mean it’s fine as long as the phone arrives eventually, just want to rule out that that the order cannot be processed due to some oddity in my shop account. For the moment I cannot check the shipping status.
I agree with benhenderson, my order number is very close to his, mine will probably be shipped soon. To answer the questions, I’m in batch 3, PRE-ORDER 11394, ORDER #20989. While I cannot reconstruct exactly I’m quite certain that I used the same email for both because all communication including the preorder voucher email was received with that email address.
Will get in touch again if there is no news for me end of October.
I did originally assume that the translation was off, but to be honest this was more of a conscious decision than my gut feeling from previous experience.
As a starting point, can we agree that “September I batch was shipped” would usually mean something like “the phones in batch Sept-I has been shipped to customers, except for a number of corner cases” and that “quite a long time ago” would mean something like “at least 3-4 weeks ago”? I.e. in general English use and especially in the context of a thread about where orders stand. (We can allow for generous interpretations of the number of exceptions and the number of weeks.)
It is true that the statement could be a bit ambiguous in the context of the replied-to post. This is not an advantage, but a real problem. Imagine someone in batch Sept-I arriving at this thread, maybe even by searching for their batch. I think there’s a 99% chance that they will take that statement to mean what it usually does.
How will they feel about “everybody else” having gotten their phones while they themselves haven’t even heard from Jolla? What kind of discussion do you think will follow? Who do you think will have to deal with the disappointment and spend effort explaining the misunderstanding?
This is the reason I quoted Jolla’s latest communication about the batch and asked for some kind of source. The debate was silly, but at least it uncovered some important things.
The author had no knowledge about the majority of Sept-I customers receiving theirs and actually meant “I received my payment link three months ago”. Can we agree that it is a very far stretch to interpret “batch has been shipped” as “I received my payment link”?
It would be easy for the author to just edit his post to remove any ambiguity, but he was adamant that he had written exactly what he meant to write - absolutely nothing was lost in translation. Eventually, I had to accept that he knew what he was doing; he obviously does write in perfect English. What view should we take on the intentional choice of words, given the many previous threads the author has disrupted?
The author pretended not knowing about the Community Tracker, then launched into a diss of the tracker and the forum member who made it.
The author kept the debate going here when I tried to take it to PMs.
Please feel free to take the above questions as rhetorical. Personally, I see a concerning pattern over time and lean towards no longer providing a charitable interpretation. While the author regularly does contribute here, I think contributions are overshadowed by the (apparently deliberate) disruption.
You may come to different conclusions, which is totally fine of course. I understand that we may disagree and will not debate your take on the situation. If you can find ways to improve the contribution-to-disruption ratio, nobody will be happier than I.
Didn’t know which one to quote (you had same thing in start), but as the discussion was about the payment links and only about payment links I think it quite easy to interpret the sentence to be related to the links the discussion was about. For sure it probably would be read differently taken out of context and if only the sentences you quoted were used, but in the place it was written I don’t think most will think the discussion was about actual phones been shipped. Misunderstandings can of course happen and I agree it would make sense of Polat to edit the post to include the word “link” also there. Biggest risk is as you wrote new comers who don’t read whole post or the one that it was replied to, which then can cause confusion. But I would like to believe most people that look for information actually reads the whole message and the message it was reply to.
As english is second language to most people in the world I make simplification and say that everything written in not your mother language can and will in some cases be misunderstood by accident. Could have happened here also. But as I assume you actually read the full message and the message Polat replied to, I think it is very unlikely that you actually thinked that Polat claimed actual phones of this specific batch to be shipped. If you didn’t read any other parts of that discussion, sure, but I’m quite sure you did read those whole messages and nowhere there was talked about the actual phones, only the payment link. Which leads to the claim that I believe you either intentionally misunderstood or by very passive aggressive way wanted to Polat edit and improve his/her message.
I also want to say that I think all parties in the discussion misbehaved. I currently believe that you misunderstood Polat intentionally. If you wanted to improve the sentence of Polat, polite note that “hey, someone might misunderstand your message, could you edit it and add word “link” to it”. I also think that Polat triggered wayy too much, misbehaved and all parties wanted for some reason to continue the argument. Polat also used language that I don’t support.
Where is the old and golden way of trying to understand each others in this anonymous internet forum and treat each other respectively? Why to argument for arguments sake, it isn’t so frigging hard to say “sorry” or “sorry, misunderstood” or “did you mean XYZ…?” or “sorry, I had bad day and it bursted here”. But no, everyone just need to stay on their trenches and defend it until the last breath while all I just wish to happen is that by common manners we try improve SailfishOS ecosystem together and spread awareness regarding this amazing product. For example, I think you have been valuable member of community, again proved yesterday in the community meeting. And as you said, this is so off topic, if you want to keep argumentation for argument sake we can continue that in PM section. Just note, I voluntarily don’t if it doesn’t relate to making Sailfish better.
Hello everyone, I’m eagly looking for my order new jolla phone since I first readed about new JP in linux news to replace my 18y old daily used Nokia N900. Incredible phone btw, first 8 years without any problems, than first time USB port which was not propertly HW fixed and depend only by soldered pins was completely breaked after 5 repairs like 8 years ago, so I finally miss out flashing and charging (replace battery everytime with external charger), than 6y ago spring for displey turn off breaks, but I repaired it trivially. 4y ago speaker breaks, but original headphones after 18y using still work perfectly without any issue, so calling is still no problem. 3y ago, glue at keyboard give up and buttons clear out in 1 month all, so writing and connecting via ssh and other works is now very painful. Hello,
Asked for a refund on Sept. 4th. Tried to ask for an update by email, no reply. Received a mass email saying the queue was two weeks. Just registered here as a last attempt before filing a dispute with Paypal, because I can’t find any other way. Please help.
Cheers
