Thanks for the tip, I didn’t realise that there is a way to restart the fingerprint service without a reboot. Surprisingly though, merely restarting the service didn’t fix the issue. I had to resort to reboot and fingerprint reader is now working again.
I kept it in the non-functional state for 24 hours this time and it didn’t self-heal. My intention is to write a bug report too, but I don’t really have anything to show for it except my word that it just stops working and recovers with a reboot. I have done software testing myself in the past and I have a hard time reporting a bug without some sort of evidence to help in investigating it further.
After having used the phone for about 3 weeks I think I can tell about my personal experience.
I have used the first Jolla (2013), the Jolla C (2016), and an Xperia X with SFOS. Due to work I needed an Android Phone and used a Google Pixel 4a 5G.
I’m glad to be back on SFOS. I like the phone. It’s big compared to the previous phones I had. I would prefer a bit smaller.
It does remind me of the first Jolla. The community was a lot smaller at that time.
Most apps that I used on Android work in AAS. I prefer native SFOS, but not all apps are available.
Some things I ran into:
Somehow my phone never seems to connect to 5G, at least it always shows 4G. The setting is prefer 5G.
Unfortunately I could not get my WhatsApp history back on my Jolla 2.
The MyAudi app does not work in AAS, it installs, but logging in is broken. This is caused bij VW using Google Play Integrity in their apps. Very annoying that I cannot check the state of charge of the battery.
Outlook app on AAS seems to restart itself. Even when I completely shut it down. Maybe time to leave Hotmail for something else. I only use Outlook because the native Mail app doesn’t seems to work with Hotmail anymore.
Another thing I could not find is a way to change the volume of the alarm sound. I couldn’t find a patch for it either.
I ran into a bug where the fingerprint scanner didn’t react anymore. A reboot of the Phone solves this.
Still figuring out what browser I want to use. I installed Atlantic browser, did an attempt to install Angelfish, but failed. I also installed DuckDuckGo (AAS).
Android WA for some reason did not save new backup to cloud, only older one was available that Jolla found. Anyway, saved that Jolla WA backup to see backup location. Saved Android WA backup locally, searched the file location and copied that to Jolla, to same folder where Jolla WA backup was (maybe there was some other tricks that I do not remember now, but in principle like this). Now Jolla WA found updated backup and full history was available.
Today i woke up, (after 4 years IOS,and their ridiculous ringtone/alarm settings), in an melancholic atmosphere with my old alarm clock tune from back in the good old Jolla 1 days. Bron-Yr-Aur (from the legendary Led Zeppelin). Sometimes the little things can make a person happy. Easy to set up and ready for the day. I can recommend it to everyone.
Anyone else having issues with bluetooth searching? 98% time the search devices button does not work, if there is one device paired earlier. Tried restarting, bluetooth on/off. Only way i get it to work is to delete the known device and then start searching.
Other issue that atleast im having is crappy quality of my voice in phone calls. At the start of the call everytime i have to wait for a bit until my voice to be comprehensable at the other end. I get to have the same i cant hear/undersrand coversation on every call…
Bluetooth problems is known bug currently and there is bugs with 2G calls also which are known. 4G Volte calls work for me at least well, but 2G calls are problematic
the quality otherwise is ok, to me atleast. Judging by the recieved voice quality my calls have been using volte. But have to monitor the situation a bit more…
Mine is on 4G the whole time. On my side I have no issues at all with sound quality so far, and I have not gotten any negative remarks from the other side either.
Where I live, 5G is not available and 4G is sometimes splochy. I have not seen any difference in reception between my pixel and JP. Call quality seems good as well - but it seems i cannot use the fingerprint reader while in a call.

My JollaPhone2026 says sometimes 4G and sometimes 5G. This is my first 5G phone and yesterday I noticed that with 5G it is quite quick. Updates from Aurora Store, it doesn’t take long. Very impressed.
There are only a few areas* left in Germany where there is no 4G. I only tried 4 and 5G calls. I bought some Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds which have some issues in calls when noise canceling is on. Otherwise these are good. I had to “activate” them on my idiot phone with Lineage though.
I also tried some cheap Hamas for 18 €. I cannot recommend these.
My first experience yes phone is nice and all it just does not connect network and that stupid security code feature keeps bugging out fixed it once somehow? I find it stupid that you need to use telnet to literately reset phone? Especially when I Telnet does not exactly work if you use Win11?
As for bluetooth: I have experienced my OpenSwim Headphones being switched to ‘headset’ mode (severely reduced audio quality but microphone also available) after a while. The only way of getting it back to ‘headphone’ mode is to disable bluetooth and enabling it again - just reconnecting wasn’t enough in those cases.
I have not yet found a way of manually telling Sailfish what mode to use.
Yeah, this is probably due the beta AAS bluetooth support. I would imagine that if you don’t need bluetooth inside AAS just uninstall it. Probably fixes most bluetooth problems on native side
