Jolla phone Discord and YouTube channel

It would be great if the Jolla team created a Discord server where we could share questions. It would also be great if they created a YouTube channel with different tutorials for beginners. I think these are two things that would help bring this proposal closer to the community.

I completely agree. I’ve actually seen that there are servers related to Jolla, like ones focused on Mind2 AI, but I haven’t come across a Discord server that they’ve officially shared as an “official Jolla” server =(

I feel the same way about YouTube too. For example, the screen protector situation unfortunately ended quite badly for a few people because they couldn’t remove the barely visible film. Thankfully, thanks to YouTuber friends like Fuchur, whose products arrived after the launch, they still managed to put together a nice video showing how to properly apply a screen protector.

Maybe that will finally get rid of the people that thinks the forum is some kind of chat.
Just don’t expect Jolla staff to hang out any more there than they do here, if that. So why not join any of the unofficial Telagram channels or whatever newfangled chat apps are hip with the kid these days?

YouTube is very well left to the community.

To be honest, you’re not the only person who knows the situation Jolla is in — yes, I know it too. And of course I know that the forum isn’t just a place for chatting and hanging out, but nowhere in the topic was it said, “Let’s create a place where we can just joke around and make fun of things.” The discussion contains useful and informative points, so why did you want to portray it as the exact opposite?

A Discord server could be useful; there are examples of this. If you look at the official Discord servers of some other brands, you can easily see what they do there. Something similar to that would be enough. It’s not like I’m going to be playing CS2 there anyway, right?

As for YouTube, it’s definitely a good thing that the community takes care of it — I had already mentioned that before. But when you look at it, having an official account could be even better. It basically costs nothing. You’re simply underestimating the value of opportunities like these.

You get all official videos here in this channel: Jolla - @fps_gbg – PeerTube

Just click the link. It has the added benefit that you don’t screw all progressive people over by keeping them out.

I avoid chatting on proprietary services especially if you have an open and privacy respecting forum like this available, so I only wish you luck chatting away on those platforms.

I thought OP had actually created these channels, but it’s just one of those “it would be nice if somebody (else) could…” type requests.

FWIW, there’s also a fediverse community: !sailfishos@piefed.zip

I don’t know what the situation is like today, but back in the days of the original Jolla Phone (JP-1301), I understand that Jolla had an IRC channel where the employees hung out. Can’t remember if it was a public channel, closed channel for internal discussions, or if they had both kinds of channels.

Try that. I did not stay very long.

This.
Spending time and filling with info a closed platform that can’t be indexed by search engines creates a small circlejerk that doesn’t help Jolla or anyone else.

Most of the tech communities (outside of gaming) I know on discord are there because they don’t want to be indexed by search engines (you can assume the reasons), or they are grey zone/pirated content.

Telegram channel is more than enough for anyone who wants to chat or get a quick answer in my opinion.

And isn’t Discord also a data-pump horror privacy nightmare?
So, talking about a virtuous privacy respecting OS on a personal data extraction platform seems a bit counterintuitive to me.
But I didn’t read any studies about Discord. Just what people I trust are saying. So I might be wrong and matrixed.

I wasn’t exactly planning on joining…

I think I understand.

I have to agree on this. Discord has recorded and spyed on every user since the beginning, and suddently this is all forgotten? They even admitted it publicly.
