Hi there, I’m just getting my new Jolla set up and i can’t work out how to find emojis. I can’t find any way to enable them and attempting to install another keyboard failed as well
I’m sure they were there on the old Jolla!

They are on a separate Keyboard layout that you have to activate under settings-text input.
Click the top most keyboards. From that list you need to activate Emojis one

You can install “The Emoji+ Keyboard” from OpenRepos and activate them like the stock emojis (s.o.)
Or use FUTO keyboard which has much better and great choice.
EDIT: added link to topic
EDIT2: or wait for this news about emoji to be released
Old man yelling at clouds would ask the same question, and follow it with “who even needs more than 3?”
30 wod be enough if it were those I use on a regular basis… ![]()
Unfortunately I fear that only makes it possible to have wider emoji selection but don’t bring them automatically to the keyboard Sailfish Community News, August 27, 2026 - #3 by attah
I just hope that feature request Extended set of Emojis in jolla keyboard - #21 by filip.k gets enough noise for Jolla to do similar solution as FUTO keyboard. I don’t think community can create PR as the keyboards aren’t OSS. I really would love to have more emojis…
Technically true. But we can send them our modded files. That’s exactly how we got our native keyboard layout. And probably others as well.
Uuuuu, super cool if someone would make that and send it to Jolla! I have to default back to android apps sometimes to be able to send emojis I want, which is super silly
Any particular reason not to use FUTO keyboard?
I have tried to keep my setup as native as possible. Basically just personal preference as I don’t really have understanding how everything affects everything else. I don’t have installed patchmanager or any patches. I have thought that it makes it easier to debug. And as I show Sailfish to everyone I like to show it in the native form, both good and bad. Then others can make better estimation how it would suit their needs. But to be honest, I have thought of bending the rule here with FUTO ![]()
I would love to see these improvements to go for native keyboard, but I highly appreciate people working around it to mitigate shortcoming of native side
I will try! Promise! ![]()
Thanks for the Tip. Really nice keyboard. Not only the emojis, also clipboard and the fact that it’s easer to write with and all the the other features!!! ![]()
Trust is wonderful. But keyboard is also the most sensitive app, security wise. Thats where all yr passwords are typed, all yr most private thoughts…
Native jolla keyboard feels safest in that regard.
