Fiat - a new series of small apps :)

I agree. I heard quality auditing takes longer since the jolla need hands other places, a flood of new apps probably increase the pressure.

But chum should be possible, I just don’t know why “nothing’s” happening, maybe some more input is missing from me, it’s just not clear what that would be

fiat imago 0.5 is out, a pre-release like the last one.

Thank you for the suggestions after 0.2. The highlight warning, the perspective correction and the loupe came from this thread. This time:

  • Looks: ten built-in starting points, from warm and golden to mono, sepia and “facet”, with a strength slider, and your own saved from the pull-down menu
  • A colour mixer, so you can turn the grass golden without turning the sky green
  • Toning for shadows and highlights, for sepia or duotone
  • A pattern effect: the small triangles Sailfish draws on its own backgrounds, measured from the Settings app
  • RAW files now use the colour transform the camera recorded for each shot, so they start out looking like RAWfish’s own JPEG
  • Photos on a memory card are found too

One thing to know: temperature and tint are about twice as strong as in 0.2, so older edits using them will look stronger.

If you have RAW10, RAW12 or RAW8 files from another device, I would love if you wanted to test them to and tell me the results

@Fellfrosch Hi! :smiley:
I got so inspired by your lighthouse that I added color mixer and a few more things to the editor, in case you’re interested in editing RAW on your phone as well

I will have a look the next days. Thank you for your app.

I’ve been on the lookout for a native Qobuz and Agenda app. Testing these out now and impressed so far. Qobuz layout is nice. Thought I’d lose the Discover feature in a native app so happily surprised to see it here. Looks like it’ll replace the Android version! Thanks for the work

I wanted to wait for the openrepo version but then I got curious regarding fiat imago. Being able to handle raw files from rawfish directly on the fly did sound too tempting.

Even in its current state it is already very usable. It is so well sorted yet pretty powerful. I would not have thought it possible, but this beats in my view already the iPhone image editing.

I am not a fan of AI coding but I have to say that if done right it can add a lot of value.

Thanks for the effort munkstolen. I hope you’ll keep working on it. This is such an important tool for a complete native Sailfish experience.

@munkstolen: I don’t have my Jolla Phone 2026 yet, so I couldn’t try out fiat imago so far.

Looking at my ideas for RAWfish, the following might also be interesting for fiat imago when holding the device in landscape orientation (optional 2-handed operation mode):

With such an UI concept, twisting the knobs of every image development parameter would become super-fast IMHO. What do you think?

Hi!

I will have to give that one a think. All of my apps are based on standing mode. I don’t say it isn’t possible bit I don’t yet see landscape bringing much to the editing based on how the app is set up today.
But I will think about it

Fiat Margo is something that I find really useful. It may be a simple idea, but it responds to a real need that SFOS apparently left halfway done.

I have a feature idea for fiat imago. One thing that would be really useful would be not just a sharpening tool but also a denoising tool. Any plans in this regard?

Not until now. That’s an obvious one to bring the app release ready!

Point me at your chum repo and I can help out.

Basically, if you have a functional acount and your tagged tar balls are being built, you just have to submit them ‘from testing’ to chum proper when the builds are fine (ie. you’ve tested they work from testing.

I will take you up on this!

But before that: I’ll put up fiat ratio and fiat imago on open repos.

Also, Only a few of them have been used for so long that it feels meaningful to have them on chum. It’d be crap to release something there that might still have issues.

AND, haven’t had the ability to try any of the 32-bit builds. I added some arm7… to open repos in the start but users reported the phone saying it needed 64.-bit something. SO that woould have to be solved first cause, chum only takes apps made for both right?

fiat ratio 1.0 — a budget tool for Sailfish OS: money from one salary to the next

The salary came on Friday. The rent goes on the 25th. The electricity cost more than last month.

fiat ratio is a personal finance and budgeting app. It keeps the month from one salary to the next: what came in, what went out, and what is still to come. It grew out of a personal finance database I have kept since 2022, and became an app when my Jolla Phone arrived.

What it does

  • A budget month that starts when the salary arrives, or on the 1st. One big number: what is left until the next salary.
  • Rent, insurance and other recurring costs are entered once and planned up to two years ahead. You confirm each one when it happens, with the real amount.
  • Trends: a month, three months or a year, each category beside what is typical for you.
  • Income over time, and a look at the months ahead.
  • Savings, a home and loans add up to one net worth, with amortisation and interest kept apart.
  • Correct an account’s balance when the app and the bank disagree.
  • Everything goes out to one open JSON file and comes back in from it. A CSV export for spreadsheets too.
  • A practice run with made-up numbers, kept apart from yours.
  • Costs you split can be entered at the full price, with only your part counted.
  • Fiat colours, or follow the ambience.

Languages

English, Swedish, German and Russian. I speak all four and have gone through every text myself, but mistakes can still be there. Corrections are welcome as GitHub issues. And if you want to add your native language, say so!

The name

fiat, Latin for “let there be”. ratio, reckoning, account, and also reason. The Romans kept their accounts in the same word they used for thinking clearly.

Built for Sailfish OS 5.1, aarch64. A 32-bit build has not been tried on a real phone yet; reports are welcome.

fiat imago 1.0 — a RAW editor and photo developer for Sailfish OS

ON Open Repos now, not just github pre-release:

fiat imago opens the RAW files saved by RAWfish and develops them on the phone, next to your ordinary JPEGs. It is the other half of the pipeline: RAWfish takes the picture, imago finishes it.

What it does

  • Reads RAW8, RAW10, RAW12 and RAW16, and JPEG. Demosaicing is Malvar–He–Cutler, and the camera’s recorded colour transform is applied.
  • Live preview while you edit: exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, tone curves.
  • Colour: temperature, tint, saturation, vibrance, and an eight-band colour mixer (hue, saturation, lightness).
  • Crop with fixed ratios, straighten, rotate up to ±45°, perspective correction.
  • Sharpening with a loupe, vignette, blur, split toning and pattern overlays.
  • Ten looks, with the strength adjustable from 0 to 150 %, and your own can be saved.
  • Hold the photo to see the original. Copy settings from one photo to another.
  • Non-destructive: edits are kept as recipes beside your photos, never in them.
  • Exports JPEG with the EXIF of the original. The same 32-bit float code path produces the preview, the 100 % view and the export, so what you export is exactly what you saw.

Your data

No account, no network. Permissions: Pictures, and removable media for the memory card. It looks in Pictures, Pictures/Camera, Pictures/RAWfish and the DCIM folders on a memory card.

Built for Sailfish OS 5.1, aarch64 only for now. The interface is neutral grey on purpose, so it does not colour your judgement of the photo.

It’s fairly ease to set up the CI since you have source on github and you get relatively quick feedback about what will and what will not build. Some things, Fiat Lux for instance, will probably need to have the packaging finessed. I could do some tests while you ask @Keto if he would provide you with an account on the obs server …

I have an account already  tey build tere but dont go live

Did you submit them to sailfishos:chum after they built in sailfishos:chum:testing ? It’s two steps, first submit to testing, test, submit to sailfishos:chum

Thank you for this app, would it be possible to add some pie chart, histogram style visualization for each month’s expenses?

Hi!

It was a deliberate move to have a horisontal bar chart instead of a pie. Pie takes very much space and you’d get problems with explaining the labels.

A histogram style can be found on the bottom of the trend page. See the screenshot here
