REPRODUCIBILITY: Always
OS VERSION: 5.0.0.67
HARDWARE: Xperia 10 III
UI LANGUAGE: English
REGRESSION: Been there for a while
DESCRIPTION:
Have a contact “AlfredXB1” saved to an online provider and link an email address to “AlfredXB1”. The email address is saved to “AlfredXB1” in the phone address book and not in the online one. The result is a contact with one part saved online and the other in the phone
PRECONDITIONS:
Have an online sync account for contacts
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
create a contact “AlfredXB1” and save it to the online sync account
open email and select link email address
select an online only synced contact
the contact now has online and local information saved
go check your online provider and the contact will not have the email address
EXPECTED RESULT:
The email address should be added to the online account or at least it should be asked where to save it
ACTUAL RESULT:
The contact has information scattered around online and local information
No, I am not syncing with Nextcloud.
I’m not sure if that is of importance as the detail added, in this case an email address, ends up in the local address book which is NOT and should not be synced online. And there lies the problem.
Be aware that merging in Contacts often happens quite transparently to a user. I was surprised to learn it myself a bunch of times.
Edit: ie. an action “Add to contact” actually creates an anonymous contact and merges it to already existing one. It can only be discovered on editing the previously existing contact.
That is surely good to know and I really didn’t.
The contact in question that I had was an absolute unique contact.
I will again change the description to be sure.
Thank you for the info.
I changed the steps to reproduce.
If you follow these steps, you will end up with a contact that has information saved online to your sync account and locally.
I tried changing the title also but still…
If you come up with a better short description of the problem I can adjust it.
Thank you all for your inputs.
