Taking inspiration from @247, @frankps and @eson, here’s a topic for everything to do with Dutch translations:
- Discuss the official translations, feel free to suggest any improvements you can think of here, it’s easier than on Pootle.
- Request a Dutch translation for an app that doesn’t have one, or an update where the translation is out of date. Naturally, both users and developers can make requests.
- Translate an app into Dutch - I can’t do it all on my own, of course. Just ask if you have any questions, I have a lot of experience but no longer as much time as I used to.
- Voel je vrij om hier gewoon in het Nederlands te posten.
With the help of several great translators, I’ve been keeping the official translations up to date over the past couple of years, but I realised that most of the apps I use don’t or didn’t have a translation yet or it hadn’t been updated in a long time, so it’s about time we start catching up a bit to make sure that selecting Dutch as your system means you actually get most things in Dutch, and not just Jolla’s apps.
Note to developers: if at all possible, please consider setting up an easy translation platform where translators can simply create an account (oftentimes they already have one) and start translating, without having to worry about manually inspecting diffs or creating pull requests, without even having to use a GitHub account, and so on. A good translation platform is Hosted Weblate, which also happens to be free of charge if your app is published with a free software license. Many other translation platforms exist, too. As long as it works, it’s an improvement over the pull request method.
