Cannot send/receive mms anymore with free.fr provider

REPRODUCIBILITY: yes, but need a “free.fr mobile account”
OS VERSION: 5.1.10
HARDWARE: Sony Xperia 10 III
UI LANGUAGE: French
REGRESSION: Unsure

DESCRIPTION:

In the past, I have been able to send and receive images using MMS using my various sailfish device and using the french Free.fr mobile operator. For a few months I tking, this do not work anymore: all send/receive operation will timeout. Regular text message (SMS) will work.

PRECONDITIONS:

A free.fr mobile (french operator) account is needed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Try to share an image, or receive a mms and tap on the image attachement.

EXPECTED RESULT:

Receiving and sending images have worked well for me since ~2010.

ACTUAL RESULT:

Nothing is sent/received, I’ll get a timeout notification much much later.

MODIFICATIONS:

I tried updating the MMS access point settings using the provider help (in french : Assistance Free - Premiers pas , see steps 8-15). They now tell to NOT use a proxy and use PAP auth without specifying a username/password. Any combination of proxy/no proxy, enabling or not PAP auth do not work.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I ran mmslog, it shows the phone is trying to send data to http://213.228.2.60 when sending an mms, but no error is displayed. I can provide the log privately if needed.
I was able at some point to manually fetch a mms running curl on a computer tethered to the phone, but it’s a bit hard to reproduce (I need to receive a new message)

In my case, it still worked 3 days ago with the following settings (with the « 2 € » subscription):

Guessing your phone is also in French, I’ll use the French descriptions (from Sailfish OS 3.4).

Nom de connexion : Free MMS
Nom de point d’accès : mmsfree
Protocole : IP
Authentification : Aucun (side note: « Aucune » would be better in this case)
Adresse du proxy : 212.27.40.225 (no http:// in front of it)
Port proxy : 80
Adresse du centre de message MMS : http://mms.free.fr

Thanks, this is what I used to have, and I re-entered it just to be sure, but no luck… In this case, I can see a “http error 7” in mmslog at least.

Does this have link with Free stopping 3G, for call and SMS, Xperia 10III used to switch back to 3G (from 4G). 4G work only for data not VoLTE on 10III with Free (with SFR/RED 10III does register VoLTE). Does calls still work too?

VOLTE is not working yes, calls and sms are still going through… for now… I hope the new Jolla phone will be compatible on that regard…

Recieving and sending MMS works perfectly on my 10 II, tested today with free (the 20eur/month subscription).
SFOS Tampella.
Is that a 5.1 regression?

You mean Volte ‘is’ working?
Volte should work with free on the 10 II and 10 III

Maybe your provider do not support mms anymore. In germany 1&1 has canceled this service.

VOLTE is NOT working, sorry if there was a misunderstanding. The provider compatibility page (Téléphones mobiles : compatibilité VoLTE / VoWiFi) do not list the X 10 III, even under android.

Hum, seems that my old XA2 can still send MMS on SailfishOS 4.6, so that do not seems to be a case of provider stopping to support MMS (others mentioned to be able too). It had the same config mentionned by @Triton .

I’ll try to update it and see if/when the functionality breaks.

Volte works for me with Free on the 10 II (not listed either).
But i have the same issue with volte not working on the 10 III.
Did you flash sfos on top of android 13?

Argh, I fell really really stupid: while the XA2 was taking ages to download 5.0, I reviewed again the settings on my X10 III, and there was a typo in the proxy address :frowning:

Things seems to work again, with the proxy setting (despite what the newer provider doc says).

I’ll try the Volte settings out of curiosity, but until french providers try to force RCS (and I’ll be royally screwed if I understand well the situation regarding non-android/ios OSes), that seems to be the way to go.

To try to get a bit futher: I tried to get the volte config, my X10 III modem is S8683.1, but there is no /data/vendor/modem_config/mcfg_sw/generic/common/default/vl/global/mcfg_sw.mbn file on my installation, So I tried echo mcfg_sw/generic/common/Default/Default/mcfg_sw.mbn > modem.conf instead but the mobile is still not registering volte.

I think I flashed the device on android 13, but I’m not sure (it was a while ago).
