Canadian provider challenges

I purchased an Xperia XA@ H3113 in the hope of finding a provider who would support it after I had installed Sailfish. It turned out that (1) no Canadian providers whitelist Xperia models, and (2) G3 is being phased out of my area by the end of 2025.

So there seems to be no way to use an XA2 or any other model with Sailfish in Canada. Am I missing something here? I am not a techie, so please bear with me.

xa2 series also does not have VoLTE, so you won’t be able to use telephony in areas without G2 and G3 coverage. You will need at least a Xperia 10 ii

Could you clarify this a bit? I once bought a Xperia 5 in the US, and it worked without problem in the states. Does Canadian have very different strategy on this matter? (really sorry for making this comparison but I have never been to Canada)

I would be surprised that xperia 10 iii does not work.

I posted earlier but it seemed to not take. Last year I had zero luck with both rephone (volla 22) and xperia 10iii on rogers and chattr. It was a bit of a disappointment. I did move to europe for the one or other reason.

I think the issue is Canadian carriers’ cooperation, given the need to unlock at two levels. They are more inclined to be helpful if the phone was previously offered by them and is whitelisted. Unfortunately no Canadian carriers offer or have offered Sony Experia models. On the other hand, maybe their cooperation is not needed. Someone on Reddit responded that he purchased a 10iii and it worked with no problems and no need for carrier cooperation.

I’m afraid my lack technical knowledge of the whole cellphone thing is just not good enough for this. There seems to be no way for ordinary users like me to get out of the stranglehold of Google and Apple.

One user put his SIM card on a iPhone and once it’s worked, put in his C2 again. Perhaps it works.

I’m currently using a Sony Xperia 10 III on the Bell network. I’ve also used it successfully in the past on the Telus network.

Maybe check to see if your device IMEI has been blacklisted?
