Camera app freezes on video recording – Jolla C2

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
OS VERSION: Sailfish 5.0
HARDWARE: Jolla C2
UI LANGUAGE: Hungarian
REGRESSION: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

**Device:** Jolla C2

Sailfish OS version: 5.0.x (latest updates installed)
Issue: The default Camera app freezes when trying to record a video.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the default Camera app.
  2. Switch to Video mode.
  3. Tap the record button.
  4. The app immediately freezes.

What happens:
The Camera app becomes unresponsive right after starting the video recording. I have to force close it.

What should happen:
The video recording should start normally.

Additional info:

  • Taking photos works fine with the same app.
  • I installed Open Camera (via F-Droid) as an alternative, and video recording works perfectly there, so I don’t think it’s a hardware issue.

Please let me know if any logs are needed for debugging.

Thanks in advance.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

As far as I understand, Jolla are not yet ready implementing the Camera2 API which is needed for video on the C2 hardware. Android switched long ago, and as such Android applications work.

(There have been several reports about this already, complete with replies that effectively states “yes, that’s how it is”.)

And it’s also in every release notes for C2.
