Battery usage on JP26

Hi,

i am using the new Jolla phone for quite a few days and was wondering how much people get out if their battery…at the moment i think my idle usage is too high. Leaving the phone overnight with AAS and mobile data enabled i loose around 2% every hour. BatteryBuddys log shows similar power usage like the battery hungry Xperia 10iii and the sleep values in SystemDataScope reach only up to 70%.

Oh. I loose 1 or 2 % over night (depends on how long I sleep…:wink:). AAS off, Flight Mode, Battery saver on, GPS active.

My impression is that the Jolla Phone 2026 has a very good battery life. I loose 2-3% over night: AAS on, ‘Inari Blue’ off (I haven’t unpacked the Inari-ToH yet), no mobile data, no GPS, no apps running. WiFI-hotspot draws a lot, of course, otherwise I’m very satisfied how long the battery lasts.

Tested over a festival weekend without recharging, started at 90% on friday 14:00, got back on Sunday with 19% at around 13:00 - went into energy saving mode at 20% threshold, so not really a big factor; AAS and 5G enabled incl. mobile data, WiFi off, BT off, Inari Blue on, location service off. No charging in between.

I am absolutely astonished, but we’ll see how the battery behaves in 5 - 10 years.

Thanks for your replies! I justsaw that i had NFC enabled, maybe this was a cause for my battery drain.

4 days for me in general. Sometimes I charge after 3 days on just in case basis.

Wifi off, Bluetooth off, Appsupport disabled at nights.

Mobile data on. LPM screen on (proximity sensor always on).

Also for me 2 - 3% drop over night (8 hours).

The biggest battery eater for me is actually active browsing using Android Firefox with the white background. I also made a test using AIDA64 app that this uses upto 2/3 more battery compared to white on black when reading articles. If your eyes can manage white on black background, this would be a good practice. (For me not so, makes reading for me very difficult so I switch amps for comfort.)

Some Android apps can remain active and consuming CPU even without permissions for background tasks and notifications and after closed from the SFOS dashboard. Hence I mostly keep appsupport disabled at nights.

I’ve noticed similar issues, in fact I wrote about this already in my first impressions just after a couple of days usage. Sometimes idle battery drain is horrible and other times very good on the JP2601. I have been monitoring the battery drain the past weeks, and on the best night it drained 2% during the whole night. The worst night thus far, with the same settings and patches and everything as the 2% example, the battery drained 16%. No AAS. The only things active have been rotation lock, Wi‑Fi, and VPN each and every night.

What seems to be happening (for me at least) is that the system starts draining more and more until I turn the device off and then turn it on again (rebooting does not seem to have the same effect, but I am somewhat unsure of this; still monitoring). After I turn it off I again get 2–3% battery drain during nights.

I’ve compared the output of the Sysmetrics app to see what on earth drains more battery, and it seems that Lipstick, for some reason, starts consuming a lot of CPU after some time, keeping the phone from going to idle power mode.

Been thinking about writing a bug report but do not consider myself having enough data yet. Could not stop myself from commenting here however as it might be related.

Something I also see that sometimes the screen lights up without any notification.

The screen turning on without a notification is caused by Android apps sending ‘hidden’ notifications. If you go to the Android settings by tapping the Android version number in AppSupport settings a couple of times, then selecting ‘Notifications’, you should be able to find the apps that recently sent notifications under ‘App notifications’, sort by most recent, find the one that’s sending you those invisible notifications, and turn those notifications off or simply remove the app entirely.

I get about 3 days of battery life; charge limit is set to 80%, and before I put the phone to charge overnight it usually has between 10 and 25% charge.

I installed some vibe coded openrepos apps and even after stopping them battery drained notably faster. Both apps seemed to work well bit I uninstalled both. Battery is back to normal again.

SystemDataScope is very useful to monotor CPU activity, memory, networks… and battery.
It produces charts which we can zoom in/out. It gives min, max and average values.

The Jp2 consumption here is around 10mA/h at night, plane mode with everything off, except a hourly rsync backup to the microSD.

Xa2 was around 22mA/h with the same configuration.

Tested last night lost about 3/4% with AAS, wifi and mobile data. I think it’s not bad.

My battery tends to go down 20-30% overnight, but that’s just because of the memory leaks in lipstick and such that have existed for ages. This is with WLAN, mobile data, Bluetooth and AAS enabled, and about 25 or so apps active on the home screen. Just to be clear, closing them all and disabling WLAN etc has virtually no effect. Only a reboot resets the leaks.

I haven’t logged the actual battery useage yet (I do want to do this later), but generally my phone goes from ~80-85% in the morning to ~30% in the evening. That’s with wifi, AAS (with one unrestricted app), and bluetooth (connected to a pinetime) constantly running (location and bluetooth are off at night).

I charge it before going to bed to ~90% (or however far it gets if I plug it in too late), and then top it off if needed (which it is generally not) in the morning before going to work.

It seems I found the culprit! :star_struck:
Since the comment by WT.Sane, I checked the repos of all my apps to see if any claimed to have been coded by AI.

Turns out I only had one, and after uninstalling the native WhatsApp client by aviarus whatsapp | OpenRepos.net — Community Repository System I realized that it was this app that caused the battery drain. Since uninstalling that app and rebooting, I have not had any problems with battery drainage. Solid 3% battery drain each night without any reboots.

Last night i lost 20% of battery life in 8hours with only mobile data on. Looking at the Battery buddy log it was consuming between 120-250ma all the time :neutral_face:

The native whatsapp app has many quirks, most probably because it is vibe coded.
I can’t open the SFOS Forum app if the whatsapp is open and vice versa. It also does not give anyone read checks even if I’ve opened the messages.

So I am not too surprised if it drains more battery than necessary.

This sounds like the known qml bug while opening apps.
